San Felipe accommodations help needed

I'm thinking of driving down after Xmas to San Felipe for a couple of days and don't know the area well at all. Is there a place that we can stay that is on the water? I remember a hotel just south of town on the water but don't remember the name and can't find it online. Any other suggestions would be very much appreciated.

El Cortez. On water. Good restrant and bar. Walking distance to downtown

This has been posted a few times: on the water
places include El Cortez Motel, resort type, holiday
they MAY charge $85 +, maybe quite a bit +,
Costa Azul, a step down in quality, there are a few
condos on the beach, one is Playa Bonita 6 blks.
no. of the Malecon, they have a site, you don't get
a lot for your $ in SF Motel wise, there are 4-5
in town that are off the beach, around $45 and up,
again they may charge substancially more on
weekends, etc. As DK posted there is a time share
type rust colored place just above the Harbor 4 mi.
so. of town, I believe they rent by the nite
El Capitian, Red Lobster, San Felipe Motel, Chapala
are some of the off water in town Motels

Is the hotel just north of the harbor on the beach worth mentioning? Go to http://www.sanfelipe.com.mx and click on accomodations to see them all.

The listing DavidK provides doesn't quite include all, appears to be those who probably pay for the listings. Sancho hit several, and others show up with an internet search. I passed through there last week spending a night for the first time in many years and wasn't impressed with the cost/value ratio of most. But that's all in what one is looking for and your mileage may vary. It also appeared that at least half the eateries in the malecon neighborhood were closed (weeknight), hopefully over the holiday weeks that will change.

In the past when tourisum was booming I went to san felipe on christmas it was always a Ghost town during that period and you had a lot of choices of places to stay. Now probably more so.

The desert is COLD in the winter! Except for BajaRob's on New Years, we only go to San Felipe May-November, but prefer June-Sept!

No trip this New Years... in the middle of the week!

no doubt, it can get very cold this time of year. thats why I suggest a nice comforter.

I am not terribly impressed with S Felipe on the whole. . We esconsed at the El Capitan. Terrific shower I will say. Dined at La Vaquita and that was good. The Chef had Chef's hat on his head.

We also ended up at El Cap, price was right and I agree with the shower observation above.

It is presently @ 7:50 a.m. 47 degrees here in SF just north of town. We have a gas heater & fireplace going. The places on the water always are more costly than inland SF. Do not think there is a shortage this coming week of rooms but next week (New Years) will be more people coming, but likly no shortage of places to stay.
If you are looking inland this week you can get a room for about $28 to $50. Yes the El Cortez will be much higher priced, both now & next week. None are fancy, but many are at least livable & clean for that price. None are far from water & it's pretty cool for swimming anyway.
