elfbrewery - 12-28-2012 at 07:59 PM

I have a friend who has never been to San Javier and would like to drive out there before flying out of Loreto. How's the road? how much time would it take to drive out there?
Muchas gracias por su ayuda.

Last Report, nearly all paved... it is about 22 miles and only the last 5 were unpaved at last report... However, we had some storms since then...? Allow at least an hour each way plus an hour + for photos and viewing the sites.

Thanks David, I knew I could count on you. Anyone been out that road since Juan?

Sorry, I meant to say Paul...

The road had some major washouts last Fall due to Paul and other storms - there are a few places where the road fell away and it is one-lane. Gonna be hard to fix a few of those places. We drove it in November, just before the Baja 1000 raced through. They were still paving the last few miles near town, and it was a bit rough. I'd allow a bit more than an hour.

Drove to San Javier on Friday, took us less than an hour to get there. All washouts have been filled and graded with gravel. Last 4 miles is graded and not paved yet. Detour into the village the last 1 1/2 miles but not a problem. We were in a Dodge pick-up and was an easy drive...There was a funeral at the Mission, so we could not wander around inside...

Good! Thanks, nice to have a fresh report and to be as close as I estimated based on my last time there (2009) and the pavement reports since. It is amazing that they have only paved 8 miles in three years... but that's okay with me! :bounce: This crew is even slower than the gang paving to Gonzaga!
