I will be passing through Mexico City and I'm looking for a recommendation for a hotel that's not too far from the airport and some fun things to do
for a night.

We always stay at the Fiesta Americana...free shuttle to and from.
Hire a car(I prefer this to taxis in Mexico City) and go somewhere. If it is a Sat night, go to Garibaldi square and listen to mariachi music. The
local bands play there as a try out for future parties. Saw my first all women mariachi band.
Go to Palacio de Belles Artes for whatever they have happening that night. The building is worth the trip.

I'll be there on a Sunday night and I'm leaning towards staying at La Catedral near the Zocalo.

I stayed here once - not too far a taxi ride from the airport - and taxi rates are fixed. It was about $24/nt, and a couple blocks from the central
plaza. Maybe the Dia de las Tres Reyes celebration will be happening. It was a nightime thing - very festive.

There is a nice and simple hotel called HOTEL SAN DIEGO near the zocalo. Their restaurant is simple but decent too. Ask for a room in the back so
you don't hear street noise.

Book online and take a copy of the reservation, they honored the price confirmed online altho it was less than what they hasd posted and were
charging.
The Palacio is a great idea - the building is spectacular.
Eat at a restaurant called SANBORNS - Casa de los azulejos - it has tiles tiles and more blue tiles on the outside. The inside is stunning and the
prices are very reasonable and the food good.. We enjoyed the atmosphere enought to eat there several times, especially breakfast. The info below
says there is wine and not beer - but I don't remember that detail since Les almost always has beer with his meals (: The dishes were different
takes on typical Mexican fare. Buen provecho !

The Sanborns chain is everywhere in Mexico, but this particular branch knocks them dead with its picturesque 16th century building, tiled in
traditional blue azulejos, and a courtyard with a trickling fountain. Sanborns is a popular place; you may have to wait for a table, especially around

There is a Holiday Inn right in front of the Catedral at the Zocolo and the rate is very good. I stay there often and it has parking. There is so much
to see within walking distance from the hotel. If you decide to stay there ask for a room overlooking the Zocolo. On the roof of the hotel, which I
think is the sixth floor, is the restaurant which has a great view and the food is very good or you can walk around and find some really good
restaurants.

The Holiday Inn Zocolo is $122.00 per night. I guess they raised their rates since I last stayed there but if you take into consideration the secure
parking and being right at the Zocolo it's worth it.

The Maria Cristina is not too far from the airport, especially if not traveling during peak hours. It's a block off Reforma and about 3 blocks from
the American embassy (as well as the English and Japanese embassies).
Skip the hotel restaurant, there are numerous options within walking distance, including a pretty respectable taqueria in back of the American
embassy.

I second the vote above for the Hotel Isabel, it's cheap and decent and in a good location just a few blocks from the Zocalo. You can buy a coffee
for $1.50 at the Holiday Inn and enjoy the terrace views.
