New drug tunnel found near US-Mexico border

"Mexican authorities said they have discovered a "sophisticated" tunnel likely intended for smuggling drugs and migrants across the US-Mexico border.

The entrance to the tunnel, which was still under construction, is located in a warehouse about 300 meters (328 yards) from the border between the Mexican city of Mexicali and Calexico, California, Mexicali police chief Marco Antonio Carrillo told AFP on Saturday.

The tunnel -- which is about 10 meters deep and 30 meters long -- has a ventilation system and lighting and is considered the most "sophisticated" of such structures found in recent years, Carrillo said.

Authorities uncovered it thanks to an anonymous tip, he added.

A man was arrested at the scene.

Discoveries of such underground passageways along the US-Mexico border are not uncommon and authorities say they are used by organized crime groups to traffick drugs and people into the United States.

At least 70,000 people have died in drug-related violence since 2006, when troops were deployed to battle drug cartels, according to the new Mexican government that took over in December.

Also Saturday, authorities said at least 26 people were killed in Mexico in the past 24 hours in apparent drug-related crimes, including six men shot dead whose bodies bear signs of torture."

In the scheme of events, are Dead Syrians a net Plus or Minus ?

I'm fairly sure that none of them were digging tunnels into the U.S.

Hmmmm,
The building the tunnel started from was 300 m. from the border....and the tunnel was 30 m long....

Not speaking to minimize the horrors of death at any level or for any reason but we rarely recognize publically that over 70,000 human beings are KILLED annually in the U.S.A. by guns and traffic accidents.

Over 200 daily.

Probably that many as well killed on skateboards.
Ban them pesky boards while there's still time.

It is estimated that 100,000 Americans die each year because doctors and nurses fail to wash their hands properly.

Sorry, not trying to hijack, just found this statistic crazy!

From the Journal of the American Medical Association:
DOCTORS ARE THE THIRD LEADING CAUSE OF DEATH IN THE U.S.,
causing 250,000 deaths every year, according to Dr. Barbara Starfield of the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health.

12,000 -----unnecessary surgery
7,000 -----medication errors in hospitals
20,000 ----other errors in hospitals
80,000 ----infections in hospitals
106,000 ---non-error, negative effects of drugs

These total to 250,000 deaths per year from "IATROGENIC" causes !
What does the word "IATROGENIC" mean? This term is defined as:
induced in a patient by a physician's activity, manner, or therapy.
And, you can bet the rent money, if doctors will admit to 250,000 KILLED, the real figure is a whole lot higher.

There are 237,000 MDs in the National Practitioner Data Bank
referred to by the Health Research Group as either
"Dangerous" or Questionable."

Pathetic, disgusting and horrible.

It's the same number as if two (2) jumbo passenger jets crashed
every day, throughout the year, and NO ONE survived.

While we're all waiting for Immigration to get their act together...

perhaps we could use these tunnels to cross back into the states to go shopping or whatnot.

I needed to go north for an ill friend last week, but didn't because my visa is still "in process"
after how many weeks has it been?
