you would be much better off taking the easy way
usa roads and cross at tecate...to ensenada then south to cabo

and take a helicopter directly to the 5 star playa frambes lighthouse resort! swimmin pools, movie stars . really nothing to see in between and when

San Felipe has plenty of empty hotels, places for good food and drinks on the Malecon (water) for the evening. Get up at dawn and drive to Gonzaga (3
miles of dirt) on mostly asphalt then about 35 or so miles of dirt road that for the most part won't beat your car to death unless your driving a
piece of crap that isn't gonna be a joy on either asphalt or dirt. Have way more fun seeing some real Baja for a fun experiance!Marc - 1-14-2013 at 05:54 PM

San Felipe is one hell of a nice town BTW.....dont let anyone fool you about that. Many nice hotels with great eateries.
That drive is perfect for a car or truck. ( Not a low height car). Go slow on the grade between Coco's and Mex 1. Many of us have done that drive a
hundred times.
Watch out for that Mulege BCS....area....full of floods and mudslides.......rockyazz roads. Cheap motels and cheap hookers too. Staying in Mulege BCS

i agree one night in ANY place in baja is not a vacation...
so you need to choose wisely
i travel baja many times a year...
last year i drove to texas and back to mulege twice
the goal here is cabo with motels in between...
not a camping vacation
services are Non-existant from the sea of cortez to the hwy 1
the road is rough
i would avoid this route for THIS person

Well always love the input from the boys. I have driven to the TJ side down.
The idea here is to get off road some. Not to brag but have new FJ Toyota. Fitted with all off road stuff, loaded just for this trip.
I'm doing bucket list stuff. have a house in Cabo area for going on 4 years but want some off road Baja stuff. My neighbor in Cabo ( built there 20ty
years ago ) is going with me. He always wanted to se the other side.
So not worried about beating up the ride, more see Baja

and have a great Vacation in San Felipe, its a great place to stay for one night or several
the last time we stayed at the El Cortez which is on the beach, great restraunt on premises and the Bare Foot Bar just right out side our door.

We checked out El Sacrificio in July 2011, and left quickly for more luxury at a lower price, in El Rosario... just not as nice a view as staying at
Gonzaga Bay.
Go to Alfonsina's first. They have some rooms (besides the motel) that may be available, ... if the motel is really full. Antonio is the manager at

Eduardo (shirtless) was the man in charge... there were several other men staring at us... the creep factor builds. Eduardo was nice... he tells us
the rooms are 'refrigerated' (solar power AC)... and the rate is $60 (dollars)...

edm-1 (Art) RV'd at Sacrificio beginning the same day we were there in 2011. He posted photos and had a good time there, from what I recall.

The meals at Alfonsina's..........worth the drive :-) The cook there will prepare your daily caught fish for your meal too.....
Do be warned...and most of us love it.....there are no locks on the motel room doors.

no rooms, make some eye contact and ask again... Did you try calling/ leaving a message to reserve on the phone numbers provided?

Having known Antonio for over a dozen years, (and not real well that he remembers me, I don't think), I would try the 'show him your're not a jerk'
and just a humble vacationer approach, before flashing dinero. Just the same as when you are pulled over in Tijuana... flashing bribe money is the
last resort if you didn't do anything wrong. Antonio is a real nice person once he knows you.
Baja Angel and I pulled up and walked into Alfonsina's on New Year's Day (2005)... her first time there, and over 2 years since I was last there...
