fishing San Quintin...yes!

mirko - 1-19-2013 at 12:04 AM

We have now commited to San Quitin, first week in April. Four guys. Looks like two of us will be fishing, maybe three if another one comes on board.

Any recommendations on fishing pangas? Does three fishermen work on a panga for bottom fishing? Any recommendations with phone numbers or emails would be appreciated.

Thanks again. I'll report back on our return.

I have posted a few times that I really enjoy fishing with Captain Juan Cook...Jim and Nancy at the Old Mill hotel can hook you up with him (pun not intended) and he often posts on Bloodydecks.com. Three guys bottom fishing on a regular panga is no problem but most of the captains there have a bit more (a lot more) boat than that. Just bring a couple of bricks of frozen squid and you should be in rockfish heaven (some of the depths are pretty deep so bring lots of good sinkers/weights as you may lose a few.)

As for checkpoints there seems to be no rhyme or reason...just who is working that day and who needs to impress the boss but always best to have your ducks in a row as best as possible.

Thanks for the tip on bringing a couple of bricks of squid. Will do!

Sure is expensive to fish out of SQ. La Paz, for example, is somewhat cheaper. Either way we'll make it work and a good time will be had by all.

Hope to get some more input.
