DOMINGIANDO...Beachcombing in the Hills

Living in Baja means you get to do lots of beachcombing for shells, buoys, old bottles, pieces of shipwrecks etc. There are so many different beaches in central baja, but my favorite is a remote, long sandy beach about 45 minutes north of Bahia Asuncion. The beach combing is pretty good here but on our last visit, I did some lurking around the hills behind for a different kind of beachcombing.

These hills are full of shells from when they were underwater ages ago. Each valley has a different kind of shell embedded in the sides of the hills. I found oyster beds, petrified sand dollars, clams, coral and other shells.

After spending the morning exploring the arroyos there, we fished a bit, walked the beach and enjoyed the curling waves of the big swell.

I wrote the new name for our place in the sand and our dog Shami wrote her name in the sand too....

We were entertained by 5 gray whales that were just outside the surf line who seemed to be feeding and lollygagging about along with several porpoises…another great day in paradise!

OMG Shari... so fascinating and beautiful... and what a lovely picture you paint. I could be happy there for the rest of my life.

Might have to walk around Baja again!
