Rainbow Hawk is apparently no longer welcome in El Callejon next to Hotel Perla.
Just a nice fellow who enjoyed sitting and talking with his friends there.

Hi Paula,

What's the background on this interesting character?

Ted

Rainbow Hawk has left his vw van parked in the same spot right in the downtown of La Paz at the entrance to the callejon where there are restaurants and shops for many years. It's reasonable to aks him to move it periodically.

I don't know anything about him really, other than what I learned today from reading this story and looking at his facebook page. He has a lot of friends and followers.
I've seen him in the callejon for years and once asked to see his drawings. I was impressed with his skill, as he draws animals and fanciful portraits using tiny ink dots.

It is unclear whether he was banned from the alley or just directed to move his van or have it impounded. It is reasonable to ask him to move after six years in the same spot, but as the van is his home base he will be unable to travel to the malecon from his new location.

By the comments on a friend's facebook page, where I found the link, and the comments at the end of the article, it seems that people are on his side, and will miss his presence downtown. He seems to cause no problems, and enjoys passing th time there, too bad he can't continue on in this.

Don't count Rainbow out just yet....

Rainbow is an institution in the Callejon next to the hotel Perla.

He was an influential leader/founder of the Rainbow Gatherings and is one of the last hippie icons. People seek him out nearly everyday to pass on the memories of how his karma has positively affected them.

He ekes by on handouts and by selling limited edition prints of his lifetime's body of work. Most of the stipple art is on this website and he was trying to add the last sixty prints in his collection when he had to deal with this current mess.

The prints are $200 bucks which a lot cheaper than most prints on the internet, certainly signed limited edition labor intensive, by less famous characters.

Hawk's circle of friends in La Paz is pretty extensive and includes some influential folks. He will get by as always.

Peace,

Rainbow Hawk can stay in La Paz and is welcome en el Callejon, he needs to move his car-it's not a campground. By the way there are many spots close by he just needs to move his car, you can't live in the same downtown parking spot forever in the downtown.

There are very few parking spots in downtown-something like 1500 spots for 3000 workers and more shoppers. WE need to respect each other and he is not respecting the shope owners or people of La Paz by his behavior.

If he need help moving-he should ask. All he has to do is move periodically or this will become worse very fast.

He could always move to Cataviņa and make it a team with Gotta-Peso!
