FM3 in context

Having gone through the process to get my FM-3, thought it would be useful to put it in perspective by comparing it to the process of getting into the US. Here are two charts that may be interesting:

Since you don't have one for permanent residency in Mexico I thought I'd include this very complex flow chart:

APPLY>>>>> PAY FEE>>>>> GET IT (total time 2 to 6 weeks)

I guess I was very lucky in getting a US Permanent Resident Card for my Canadian wife. Just a little over 2 years and $2,000 including 2 trips to Juarez for health check and interviews.

Only takes 5-15 years, and they wonder why folks take the illegal route.

It's a fairly similar story for Canada, although improving in recent years:

What's worse, some of the applications from 2008 and before, which had been waiting years, were cancelled in 2012 when they decided to retrospectively change the rules.

Australia processes most applications within a year or two, but family reunification (bringing in a parent) has an approximately 15 year queue (so many will die waiting). That's still better than some of the US family reunification quotas - some queues (including from Mexico) are decades long:
