Supposed to be a cool little mountain town, east of Hermosillo. Anyone familiar with the area, or have a good source for info?
Thanks!

History
In 1673, the Jesuit missionary Alonso Victoria founded the town of San Idelfonso of Yécora. San Idelfonso of Yécora was later named La Trinidad, a
Judicial District in the municipality of Sahuaripa. The municipality held this name until August 28, 1916 when Governor of Sonora Adolfo de la Huerta
changed the town's name to Yécora.[2]
The name Yécora is derived from an identically named town and municipality located in the province of Álava, in the Basque Country (autonomous
community), northern Spain. In the Basque language, the name translates to Iekora.

I've been to Yecora. It's really not much, IMO. The forest is akin to elevations around 4-5k feet in the Laguna Mtns.; a mix of scrub, deciduous and
some conifers. The town is also not much and the locals will warn you not to go exploring on the dirt roads as you're bound to run into marijuana
fields with armed guards. The one time we went up there, it was harvest and it was the police that warned us about this. Honestly, I got the feeling
that they were part of the protection for the fields. Municipal cops, of course.
The road to Yecora from HMO is probably the most windy (sinuous) road I've ever been on; taking the title from the Mammoth Pool/Minarets Road up by
Shaver Lake. You really cant do more than about 25 mph for literally 2-3 hours in one stretch. The road in from Obregon is better; though it
technically requires the All of Mexico vehicle permit.
But the best attraction in the area is the AMAZING Cascadas de Basaseachi Parque Nacional. This is technically in the State of Chihuahua (gulp!). It's
a bit like a steep section of Copper Canyon (with more trees) and several rivers flowing over the edge and creating falls of significant drops. These
can be viewed from a couple vantage points along the rim and one can hike down into the canyon. There is camping in the area. Highly recommended.

I have traveled Mex 16 many times and I will not go down into Yacora. The Falls are a must stop and a good place for an overnight.
