Las Canadas south of Maneadero

windgrrl - 2-10-2013 at 07:20 AM

Looking for reviews from anyone who have stayed at Las Canadas. We've stopped at the gates for a break and it seemed like a good overnight stop before heading to the border. Also wondering if there are any dog-friendly accommodations on the #3 between Ensenada and Tecate.

Muchas gracias,
W

Canadas is a swim park and camping ground. I think it is about $300 pesos per person but this time of year it might be closed, at least the water park might be. This is a bad time to look for accommodations because of Carnival. Also, I have heard that the hotels in Tecate that accommodate pets are very expensive but you might want to do a search on this site for pet friendly hotels Tecate, the topic has been discussed many times.

Hi,

1st choice would be a room. We have camping gear for cool weather. We're low maintenance, but a hot shower, breakfast or coffee would be a bonus. Heading north in the F 150 with a shell in a month or so.

Thanks for your replies,
W

well its very cold right now in Ensenada, I'm happy to be headed out to Hawaii on business next week!!

J.P. - 2-10-2013 at 10:05 AM

They have Cabins at la Canada dont they.

EnsenadaDr - 2-10-2013 at 10:07 AM

JP I don't even know if they are open this time of year...Like I said, it's known as a swim park...

Ateo - 2-10-2013 at 10:15 AM

It's open year round. Winter rates are 50% off or something.

MMc - 2-10-2013 at 10:17 AM

There are 3 hotels in El Sauzal that are very reasonable if your looking for a room. Las Canadas is super nice as a camp ground.

Ateo - 2-10-2013 at 10:19 AM

and they have teepees now!!!!!!!!!!!!;D;D;D

If camping in Guadalupe Valley interests you, we've discussed this place in the past:

http://www.ranchosordomudo.org/general.php

Weather permitting, I would have this place at the top of my list.

Pompano - 2-10-2013 at 10:52 AM

"Los Canadas" Park south of Ensenada near the checkpoint.

Yes, we have stayed there a couple times..although in a RV. First time was in 2002 or so with a 32' fifth wheel. The place was fairly new then. Never saw another camper at the time. I think the rate was about $20 dollars per night with water, elec, and sewer. Nice, quiet, landscaped surroundings. I would recommend it and would stay there again. Our large dog was okay.

Like other travelers, I wrote a trip report that included this place. Most likely a search will bring that park up a few times.

I'll dig around for some photos...pretty sure I've got some for you!

Yup..here you go and I was wrong on our rate..it was 150 pesos cheap when the exchange was listed at 12.5 to 1. Safe travels.

Two of the Punta Banda locals Gato and Melissa had or still have a Hamburger Concession there. It is a seasonal operation.

Burgers? I thought it was Hot Dogs. That's what it was up in the Bufadora Mall before they moved it south.

These are two very nice looking options.

EnsenadaDr - We are Canadian and can survive outdoors in nuclear winter with a plastic tarp and snowshoes. Have a great trip to paradise.

Ateo - thanks for the link to your trip report.

Dennis - Rancho Sordo Mundo has been on my list for some time. Thanks for the recommendation.

Pompano - you are the god of travelogue. Nice to see you on the road again.

And as for those burgers and dogs - make mine vegetarian, please!

:P
