Good place for lunch between border and San Quitin

mirko - 2-10-2013 at 02:29 PM

Leaving for a few days in San Quintin March 30th. 4 boys (old men, actually). I know...it's still early, but I can't wait.

We figure we'll leave Anaheim around 8 AM and will be ready for luch somewhere along the way. Any suggestions?

El Trailero in ensenada about 2 miles south of the toll booth by San Miguel. it'll be on your left and be the most crowded taco stand you'll see (for good reason!).

A little further south from Ensenada, we always use to stop at the one and only place in Santo Tomas on your right, a sit-down restaurant-----and thought it was good, but that was some time ago.

In Maneadero, past the La Bufadora/ Punta Banda road, on the left in red and white: Tacos El Poblano

another question is?

what are you wanting to experience
street stands
restaurants,

some here didnt read the post, as he is asking for lunch, so some how I would think some thing about half way

You Might Be Really Hungry

By the time you are passing by Rosarito.

Tacos el Gerente for perrones (and if you get extra to go, they reheat really well). http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g150774-d1074950-...

Or, for outstanding fish tacos, quesaron, ceviche and aguachile, JR Tacos, just about a half mile south of the southernmost Pemex station on the free road.

Here is a review of several taco stands in Rosarito: http://baja.com/rosarito/taking-the-taco-tour-in-rosarito/

El Trailero in Sauzal is very good, but it is thirty miles farther south.

my bad,, I didnt see that the OP, posted that he was not going to leave Aneheim until 8am

thats a late start, but your all right about, he will be hungry soon after crossing the border, assuming he will stop at the border and get there FMM

If you guys are looking for a world class steak for lunch there is a restaurant called Sanos a couple miles north of Ensenada on the west side of the road. Try the blue cheese salad and the ribeye. It ain't cheap though.

well...let's try this again;" good place for lunch between border and san quintin"...we just don't have any solid spot in that stretch that stands out in recent memory...i just usually want to get "through" it and so have my blinders on but i KNOW beachgirl really really wants me to pull over to grab a quick bite along the way between el cajon and wherever we end up that nite, which is usually in el rosario....any favorites???...please???

BajaDixon - 2-10-2013 at 09:29 PM

Best carne tacos are at Tacos 2000 in Rosarito Beach. Turn off the hiway at the 3rd RB turnoff where the pemex is and head down towards the main street and 1/2 blk before you hit the main street it's on your right. Ate there again today. Best tacos in Baja!!!!!

I'm also a fan of El Trailero, great food and very convenient location. Probably too far south for your schedule but I also like Valentina's in San Vicente, small place on left just past Pemex. Inexpensive and good. I like their Bistec Ranchero and if its morning I try to hit it for breakfast.

Or you can try Tacos Poblano in Maneadero. Once you round the slight curve on Mex 1, go past the Bancomer (on your right) about 2 blocks - it'll be on your left. We're eaten there several times with no digestive consequences.

That would El Palomar. Worlds largest? collection of beer cans hanging from ceiling but great food (and c-cktails).

Thanks, Bob---now I remember. For years it was the place to eat a great lunch, and rondezvous with everybody when going south with groups of friends-----out of the hub-bub of the populated areas to the north, and entering what we knew as the "real Baja".
