Tonight on Sunday, President's Day Weekend

For everyone who has said that Splash is full of elderly gringos is full of something else.

We arrived at about six pm. The parking lot was full. The dining rooms and bar were full with a mixture of young, hip, middle class Mexicans, Mexican American families and plain old Amurricans.

We ate dinner outside because there were no tables inside - it was a beautiful, not cold, not windy night with a clear sky and a crescent moon.

It is less than a quarter mile from our casa.

We keep meaning to go to Splash Too, but hubby doesn't like the Free Road in that area - he feels it is too dangerous.

A place I have never, ever gotten sick from is Sano's steakhouse in Ensenada. They have fabulous steaks and seafood and from personal experience has a very diverse clientele. This is from personal experience, of course. And I am not quoting Trip Advisor for a more "accurate" opinion, since if I have gone there myself, I will generally go by my own experiences whether or not I want to revisit the same establishment.

There's a commercial for it every few days here, plus numerous past threads on it, someone will jump in and exuberantly describe the location and the gleaming qualities of the place...I choose to call it Rosarito's version of Monteczuma's Revenge...

From the toll road?

About one mile and a half south, there is the Cuenca Lechera exit.

Turn left and you will see very well marked signs for Splash, guiding yu to towards the beach.

Great food - breakfasts (chicken fried steak), lunch and dinner.

Yeah, I guess my post review and another Nomad's post review didn't count, because immediately after we recounted about how I got violently ill there once and he twice, the Trip Advisor page was posted saying, "this is the more ACCURATE post of restaurants in Rosarito..."

I bet the place was jumping. Love the place, the people, the location, the wait staff, the music, everything, and the food is fabulous!! Hell, I even love the secure parking!!

I've a friend at K55 through which I'm met Splash. If you've got to go North or get to go south & it fits in, make the stop. Another Augies local, comfortable spot.

What was the deal with Sunday night, all our favorite places were busy. Tapanco had a line out the door, we considered driving up to the original Splash but with some many people in town thought better. We have been going there for years, especially when we have visitors as the views are to die for. We find the lobster is better there that Puerto Nuevo and without all the parking hassles and then of course the Black Sea bass. We have never had anyone is our party get sick. Hung over yes, especially if you stay for dancing.
Decided to eat at Nueva Amore (That's amore in the past) in Rosarito and they were packed, had to wait 15 minutes for a table. We have never had to wait for a table there.
Glad to see the businesses being busy but I am missing the super personal service that we had for years.

But whatever you do, don`t go there when they play "Splash". Usually on a drunken Sat. night, when the innocent tourist are already drunk! Nick will rig the diving board for the new reality show "Splash"!!! Look what happened last week!!!

Nick`s Saturday night diving show has kicked-off with the deaths of 12 of its celebrity contestants.

It’s like Dancing on Ice if the ice breaks
The producers of Splash! paid tribute to the dead but pledged to continue throwing famous people off a diving platform just to see what happens.

Last week’s dead included Marty Bishop, member of short-lived late 90s boyband 12345 R GR8! and Susan Traheme who appeared briefly as ‘bad girl’ Stephanie Shears in the short-lived Channel 5 soap opera Venereal Close.

Also drowned was 1970s children’s presenter Bill McKay, whose Border TV show Up With the c-ck provided young viewers with a fascinating look at life on a farm.

But many of the celebrities dragged from the water remain unidentified. An ITV spokesman said: “We think one of them might have been on Tomorrow’s World.”

Critics accused the producers of exploiting semi-famous people who were entirely the wrong shape to collapse into a swimming pool.

But ITV said Helen Lederer, who survived but has three broken vertebrae in her neck, wanted to continue as long as they promised not to strap her to her wheelchair.

The spokesman added: “It was one of our darkest days so after a lot of soul searching we have decided to use a deeper pool and have the contestants coached by Andi Peters.”

Now, I am really curious. Dangerous??? In what way? Lots of businesses, fun places to stop and peruse, good places to eat, good thrift stores? Dangerous? Not being argumentative, but wondering why the feeling?

Last time I drove that road, there were potholes that required their own tourist permits. Maybe that's what she refered to.

As residents you are aware of crime that may not be apparent as tourists just passing through.

Poor lighting at night for aging eyes, the potholes are hard to see unless you have memorized the road and who can do that with aging memory issues

I wish I knew you were there, Jan, We would have loved to have met you. BTW, never been sick from the food there, but maybe too drunk. Also, Living in La Mision, Splash is further away, but just dont get a good vibe at La Fonda.

The free road now is smooth as silk until you get up around Waldo's. Really makes it nice to not HAVE to take the cuota. Perfect driving conditions, Dennis.'-)

and there is no middle divider on the road.

In that location, you are stuck using the free road several miles north back to the Pemex in order to get on the toll road, then you are out the money to use it, or going south ten miles to the Cantamar/Primo Tapia entrance to the toll road.

Now, if you live in Popotla or one of the high rises or campos in the area, it is great.

Okay, that makes a bit more sense if you are coming from the north south. The potholes USED to be horrendous going south to north, and now it is lovely..at least until you get around the Smart and Final area. '-)

Maybe I should have said, "Just too damn inconvenient to get to and back home for us at night."
