I have camped out by the lighthouses here a few times in the last month.
Each time, at about 8 pm, a truck drives along the beach and makes a bunch of stops with flashlights. I think they are collecting turtle eggs. At
first I assumed they were in connection to conservation efforts, but now I am wondering if they are poachers?
There are what I assume to be workers quarters for the salt production site near by and I wondered if maybe the workers are collecting the eggs for
food?
Anyway, I am just curious.
I am also curious if it's a safe place to camp. Every time I've been there, the only other people I have seen have been the egg folks on the beach at
night and vehicles traveling on the road (I believe transporting workers). I did read a post on these forums about a robbery there a few years ago,
but couldn't find anything more current. And FYI I don't have a boat, or ATV or any other expensive toys. Just me and my 97 mini van, lol.
OK, any info would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Camped out by the lighthouse for many years - many years ago. Now, there's so much activity (in comparison) on the beach there, that I make it a day
trip destination instead on trips we've taken in more recent years.
