Mulege Plant Walk this Friday

ecomujeres - 2-18-2013 at 09:24 PM

Hi Nomads:

I forgot to post my weekly plant walks around the Mulege area.

So, here's the info about the last one for this month. I'll be sure to post about future walks in March.

**********************************************
Have you ever wondered: “WHAT is that gray plant?”
Or asked yourself: “Is that plant DEAD”?

Now is your chance to find out! Come join me on a free, guided walk and learn about some of the common (and not so common) Baja California plants. We’ll explore different habitats each week.

Date: Fridays February 22. March dates TBA…

Time: 9:00 am

LOCATIONS ARE DIFFERENT EACH WEEK:

Last walk in Feb. 22: Meet at the Mulegé Mission parking lot.

Wear sturdy shoes. The 1.5 -2 hour stroll is not strenuous, but can be rocky and uneven. Bring a notebook, camera, your glasses, water, sunscreen, snacks/lunch... NO PETS PLEASE!

darn!!!!....we're gonna be in san ignacio doing the whaling gig...please let us know when you'll do another one!

bajajudy - 2-19-2013 at 09:35 AM

Wish I were there!

DianaT - 2-19-2013 at 09:55 AM

To anyone in the area, I highly recommend that you join that walk. We have never done the Mulege walk, but after spending a couple of days walking around San Roque, Bahia Asuncion and some arroyos further south, with the ecomujeres, I have never looked at the desert in the same way. All that grey scrub brush is lurking with diversity and beauty.

This is just one little beauty that I probably would have walked right over or on before our plant education. And there are A LOT more.

I can almost guarantee that you will see plants you never knew were there; unless of course you are already an educated plant person.

Gracias Diana for the plug. Where are you two at? Are you in Asuncion? We've got some free time in the next few weeks and are thinking of doing a little trip. And, if we had incentive...email me!

I hear the desert is gorgeous between here and Guerrero.

I would love to come on a Mulege plant walk, especially after reading Diana's report above, and also because i know that the ecomujeres are delightful folk, and any walk with them would be pure pleasure.

On Friday morning I'll be setting up at the Loreto Fiesta del Arte.

What a nice day it could be to go walking through the desert, then a nice drive down the coast to Loreto to view the work of excellent artists from Loreto, Mulege and Bahia Asuncion. There will be good wine to purchase by the glass, and complimentary appetizers prepared by members of the Loreto Restaurant Association and the artists themselves.

Ecofriends, might you make the trip down? It would be nice to see you. And I'll look forward to notice of the March walks.

Thanks, Paula! We'd love to do a walk in Loreto , or come to the show but I'm at the vet clinic this weekend and it's exhausting.

I'd love to plan a few days there in Loreto with you, lead a walk or two, connect with the students at UABCS's alternative tourism program to lead a walk with them and give them a presentation about the plant/trail guide I recently finished.

I'm off at the clinic for 3-4 weeks after this weekend and that could be a great plan during my break! Let's talk.

Great work on the art show. People, go, enjoy yourselves and support the artists!

Mike, you just needed to give the two aging non-pitbull wimps your meanest, most assertive tssst! and they´re yours. And I use wimps in the sense that they aren´t sure if they are cats or dogs!

Glad you were both able to make it this morning. See you next Friday, I hope! To the Lighthouse!

ecomujeres - 3-15-2013 at 04:22 PM

Well, that is unusual. My word choice was edited automatically and changed to wimps, so think of a feline wimp. Hmmph.

LAST TWO PLANT WALKS FOR THE SEASON COMING UP

Hola plant aficionados:

The next two plant walks, the last ones for the season will be coming up soon:

April 5. Meet at the Arch at entrance to town at 9 am. We´ll drive (carpool) a short distance into the valley.

April 12. Meet at 9 in the Hotel Serenidad parking lot (the one closest to the airstrip, not adjoining one inside the main part of the hotel). We´ll look at the mangroves and estuary plants along the river.

Hope you´ll be able to make one or both. Please feel free to pass this information on to friends and neighbors.
