TMW - 2-23-2013 at 11:10 AM

My kind of festival, it's on the calendar.

Hook - 2-23-2013 at 12:42 PM

Jeez, I just might have to fire up the truck and camper for that. Havent been to Ensenada in at least 6-7 years. Maybe overnight in San Felip' on the way over. Beer on Saturday, maybe wine touring on Friday or Sunday? How many of the wineries are open during the week or on Sunday?

I could hit all my old haunts, if they're still there. La Embotelladora, El Rey, Charro Chicken, El Trailero? No, not Anthony's................

Anybody got space for me to park? No problem being self contained. Just sumpin' level.

I don't always drink beer, but when I do I prefer Brewjas..... Stay thirsty my friends....

Udo - 2-24-2013 at 12:08 PM

Hola, Terry!

Thanks for promoting this event. It should bring many Nomads together.
My wife, Jana, my sister Rhea and myself plan on attending.

Now how do we sign up and pre-pay ahead of time?

SiReNiTa - 2-24-2013 at 12:51 PM

Tickets will be $250 before the event and can be bought at "El Distrito" a bar on Gastelum street as well as all of the brewers will be given tickets to sell, Ophelia's restaurant will have quite a few for those of you who know where it is!

The tickets are not out yet but should be delivered soon!!! Tickets are only available to buy in Ensenada, if anyone wants tickets ahead of time but won't be here until the day of the event I may be able to set aside a few so you don't have to pay full price the day of the event!!!

Udo - 2-24-2013 at 05:42 PM

Hola, SiReNiTa!!!

I know where Ophelia's is.
Could you please set aside three tickets for me and I'll pick them up between 11 a.m. and noon on the 23rd?

Mil Gracias!!

If I can find my extra Baja Nomad bumper sticker, I'll have it up at the Zombie Brew Labs booth.

Doug has not yet sent out the secret decoder rings, so I guess we are out of luck identifying fellow Nomads

Retireded - 2-24-2013 at 10:48 PM

I'm marking it on my calendar. It might be fun to think of some way for Nomads to recognize other Nomads. I've met a few in the time i've been here, but not sure I'd recognize them again. How about we all wear huge sombreros? Or maybe pick a color shirt to wear? Or make sure we are all staggering by 14:30?

woody with a view - 2-25-2013 at 03:55 AM

14:30? you must sleep in!

Rhea - 2-25-2013 at 04:33 PM

thanks for the information. I am looking forward to it and happy that my brother Udo covered my back.

SiReNiTa - 2-26-2013 at 11:23 AM

It'll be a ball!! Here's a little sneak peak of what 8-Bit's Red Ale looks like from when we sampled it last night, they were hard at work bottling and labeling but took a break to toast my husband Adrian on his birthday!!

And here's one of all the guys taking a breather after a few hours of hard (and stinky) work!

Sorry about the huge pics!!

The Old Missionary Brewery - amazingly, they changed their clientele from ex-pats to locals and survived. Great beers but the pizza has gone to the cats. Very close to them are maybe the best fish tacos in Ensenada.

.......there's no doubt that the laws and taxes are challenging,,,,,,,
'' Taxes are also a huge obstacle for Mexican craft breweries. Federal tax on beer is 26.5 percent, plus local sales taxes are anywhere between 10 percent and 16 percent. “Tell me one business that can increase the cost of its product by 40 percent and survive,” explains Insurgente’s Morales, whose La Lupulosa Pale Ale won Best of Show at the 2011 Baja Beer Fest. “Which is why there are so many under-the-table brewers.”
................but there -IS- a lot of room to move between the cost of ingrediants and the over-the-bar price
......and once people get a taste for -REAL- beer,,,there's no limit!:)

.........I wish I could make the beer-fest!!!

The beer fest in Ensenada this past weekend was a blast. Sorry if you missed it, but there is always next year. There were over 60 breweries present with each having several choices of beer to choose from. I’m really not a beer drinker but still managed to have fun and really enjoyed my samples. Brewjas was outstanding.
The food would have made any foodie happy. I was in ceviche heaven. So many choices too little time. Hope that you can make it next year.
