recent trip to the California central coast

tripledigitken - 2-25-2013 at 08:57 AM

Mi esposa had a birthday recently and when I asked her what she wanted, she said she always wanted to tour Hearst's Castle. Well, it doesn't take much prodding for me to hit the road...............

We spent two nights in Cambria on Moonstone Beach. Our motel must have been about 150 yrds from this view.

popular spot for seals too.

all three days were stellar in the weather dept. Morro Rock in the distance.

Morro Rock

San Simeon pier, built by and used by Hearst for unloading many of the European treasures that filled the interior and exterior of the "castle".

That's carved teak eves.

The tile work at the Roman Pool is indescribable.

Liked this local Pinot very much, the grapes used for this bottling are in vineyards 3 miles from the coast.

Remember Rockford Files? His trailer for several seasons was parked in the lot just behind me. The funky restaurant there is a favorite stop for us.

Mi Esposa was a happy girl!!

Nice birthday trip, Ken! That's such a scenic stretch of the coast.

I was following your breadcrumbs about a month or so ago.

The cove at Hearst Castle used to be a haven for rum runners during prohibition.

Thanks for the kind comments.

Not just wine country up that way. One of the states better craft brewers is in Paso Robles. Firestone Walker.

I like their DBA, which is an english style bitter ale, and their Porter.

They are available widely in CA.
