Bruce R Leech - 2-27-2013 at 09:43 AM

it flies right through Orion from right to left at sec 28 and 29 you can stop the video at that point if you want. this is not a hoax it is just as I photographed it, let me know what you think it could be . I shot this last night doing a time-lapse of Orin passing.

Hmmmm . . . fast mover without a tail, no se!

lizard lips - 2-27-2013 at 09:59 AM

What you saw Bruce was the International Space Station. It will be visible again tonight in Ensenada between 8:22 p.m. and 8:29 p.m.

EnsenadaDr - 2-27-2013 at 10:00 AM

Probably a Mexican that set off fireworks on the beach, no cause for alarm!!

lizard lips - 2-27-2013 at 10:01 AM

Looking at it again what you photographed was moving pretty fast. What time did you take the video?

dtbushpilot - 2-27-2013 at 10:02 AM

Seems to be moving away, getting smaller and dimmer as it goes by. Maybe just a meteorite?

dtbushpilot - 2-27-2013 at 10:05 AM

I forgot that you said it was a "time-lapse". How long would the object have been visible at normal speed?

Bruce R Leech - 2-27-2013 at 10:27 AM

I think is right after checking everything out the time, speed and trajectory and brightness all match the International Space Station. good call lizard lips you solved the mystery.

I was shooting at 12 fpm and played back at 29.95 fps. with 18 mm so I would guess that it would have been in the frame for 1.5 min.

lizard lips - 2-27-2013 at 10:33 AM

Tonight is the best time to see it. I'll be watching.

Bruce R Leech - 2-27-2013 at 10:38 AM

Thanks Lips I might try to photograph it again now that I know it is coming. It would be better if I slow it down and use a telephoto over a wide angle.

durrelllrobert - 2-27-2013 at 12:02 PM

I also took a video of a UFO in Ensenada. In my case the Unidentifed Following Object turned out to be a Federally that confiscated the video.

Wow that is a story that I would like to here. Please:light:

Tommy A - 2-27-2013 at 12:16 PM

Was that music in the background coming from the UFO?

bajacalifornian - 2-27-2013 at 01:24 PM

All very cool . . .

monoloco - 2-27-2013 at 02:40 PM

I saw something about a week ago traveling horizontally from east to west that crossed the whole sky in less than 3 seconds then disappeared.

Bruce R Leech - 2-27-2013 at 03:25 PM

that is way fast, did it have a tail?

monoloco - 2-27-2013 at 03:28 PM

No tail, and it wasn't very bright, kind of an amber color. It appeared to be fairly low from the angle I viewed it at.

Bruce R Leech - 2-27-2013 at 03:59 PM

sounds like you saw the UFO

monoloco - 2-27-2013 at 04:34 PM

We see meteors and satellites all the time and this was definitely something different.

woody with a view - 2-27-2013 at 05:18 PM

it was the guvmint!

BajaParrothead - 2-27-2013 at 08:00 PM

Saw it go over NorCal's twilight sky from about 6:20 to about 6:28. Amazing how fast it must be moving to cover that much distance.

lizard lips - 2-27-2013 at 09:42 PM

I went out at 8:20 to 8:30 and didn't see it here in Ensenada. The sky was clear so I must have just missed it. Did you see it Bruce?

lizard lips - 2-27-2013 at 11:08 PM

According to the web site for ISS it said it would pass so we could see it in Ensenada between 20:22 to 20:29.

bajadogs - 2-27-2013 at 11:11 PM

I saw it roll across the sky at 6:22 pm (San Diego time) for a few minutes. Very bright. Spectacular!!!

These guys will send you a notification (text, email) based on your location. Makes a good reminder night before.

This site you can register and pick your location and adjust time zone so when you check in it will give your local time. Also shows star chart and ground track (posted earlier)

Good news it that it will be back again and again and again and again................eventually.

no I got busy and missed it:no:

lizard lips - 3-1-2013 at 07:56 AM

Last night I saw it for about 20 seconds. It was moving very fast directly overhead.

Jim/Liisa - 3-1-2013 at 03:33 PM

To me it looked like anything that was lit up was moving the same direction at the same speed???

David K - 3-1-2013 at 08:19 PM

If you guys have watched other satellites while camping in Baja or outside anywhere on a clear, dark night... the space station is just a bit brighter, not much... and moves at the typical satellite speed, not too fast... I watched it for at least 2 minutes the other night as it came out of the north horizon and went to the east horizon. I even coaxed Baja Angel out to look... "just another satellite" she said and after 5 seconds went back inside... lol!

The International Space Station travels in orbit around Earth at a speed of 17,500 miles per hour (that's about 5 miles per second!). This means that the Space Station orbits Earth (and sees a sunrise) once every 92 minutes!

Jim it is only there for 2 seconds in the Video right around sec. 28. It moves so fast because it is a time lapse video
