Los Planes to Los Barilles - via the coast road

We just did this road yesterday - It was in pretty good condition with just a couple places that would have been very difficult for a 2WD. You could see that they had attempted it with obvious hopping and dig outs in 2 of the short steep climbs. I had no problem at all and barely even spun a tire in the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The first 6 or so miles took the longest (about an hour) going through the fairly tight wash area, the other 22 or so went a bit quicker with no real issues other than having to pick your way down into a couple washes with care and watching where small washouts were starting along the cliffs.

There was car like tire tracks that looked fresh and when we were close to dropping into the wide valley there was a small camp with what looked like Izuzu or old Subaru 4WD cars setting up camp in a small wash by the beach. It looked like they must have went the same way we did so they must have scraped on at least a few rocks on the way out there.

It was incredibly beautiful, not too difficult of a road for most any 4WD and even a 2 WD if you are talented, have lockers or come in via the south to north route. I'll post pics in the next couple days although I have no real close up pictures of the road condition.

I love that run. Just fill the ice chest, turn on the Ipod and relax.

Did it with BajaTripper, but north from Los Barriles... Seeing the turtle track was the best part... nice views, too! Photos in the July 2012 trip report (link below).

We did that trip from Los Barriles south and ended in LisZacatitos and Las Lagunas.
We drove the Mexican version of a Nissan Sentra (BTW...do not EVER rent a car from Budget rentals!). I let my guard down after six previous uneventful rentals from different companies.
