How long can I stay without changing citizenship?

I am not looking to work there, just live there.

I have read that I can stay for up to six months, with just my passport. Then, all I have to do is cross over the border and get my passport re-stamped.

Ask Catavina Cal. "gottapeso". He's got it down.

You can stay as long as you want, as long as your Mexican Immigration documents are in order and you have a valid US Passport.

If you are planning on long term, suggest you look into more than the obtaining the 180 day tourist visa.

walterbyrd, if you are close to the border then crossing and getting a new visa is not a problem

if you are just experimenting to see if you like living in Mexico - for sure this is the best option

once you are sure you want to LIVE in Mexico, a year long visa is better/more kosher and after a certain number of years, then you can choose to be an immigrado or dual national eg dual citizenship.

BTW You never give up your original citizenship, you add another one ie you become a dual national.
