Avoid Restaurant Pancho's y Tequila Bar in Cabo

A bunch of us just completed a trip down south and went out to dinner in Cabo. It turns out Restaurant Pancho's and Tequila Bar has some major math issues.
Yes, they thought we were all having so much fun nobody would notice. They really jacked up the bill and then made a big issue of it. Do NOT go there. I wrote this up on Trip Advisor and found that many others have had the same experience. STAY AWAY from Restaurant Pancho's and Tequila Bar in Cabo San Lucas.

Some employees think they are smarter than they really are. You should inform the owner but I guess you have through TripAdvisor.

I think it is a little more like Newport Beach or Balboa. So Cabo prices are always high to me, but the bill should reflect what you ordered and consumed - not what management thinks they can gouge you for.

Restaurant owners like that already know. I knew an owner in Laguna Beach who brutalized his customers. When I asked him why, he just said eff 'em. They're tourists and I won't see them but once anyway.

It has always amazed me how restaurant owners don't go the extra mile with all of their customers and if the customers are enjoying themselves and already drank and eaten and the bill is pretty high give them a drink or appitizer on the house. Not only will it bring them back but word of mouth is better than spending a ton on what you would spend on adds or flyers.

In Mexico it seems that when business id down the owners always jack up their prices or add what they want and screw you......:fire:

Not just in Cabo, mind you they reach the top.
In Todos Santos we had a simmilar thing, not one item on the bill reflected the price from the menu, and always MORE. This was at La Casita, the pleace near the only traffic light in town. The food was great but everything was over charged.

We live in between Cabo and San Jose. Many fine places to eat. We eat in San Jose most of the time. No issues. Some people just have a note on their backs I guess that says "Kick Me"

Ron Ristroph took me and a buddy in many years ago while on a 2 month trip to Baja. We were broke but he seemed to like us for whatever reason. He kind of ran his sister's restaurant, Panchos. We soon met John and Mary Bragg who were very, very generous to us. Our friendship began.

While it's been some time since I've been to Cabo, I have nothing but great memories of Panchos. In fact, we had Mary set us up with our civil wedding ceremony in town.

John and Mary moved to mainland some time back but I believe Ron might still be down there. I'm guessing you had an off night. That doesn't make it correct but be careful painting a broad image.

I suggest you email Mary and let her know your situation. She is an astute, honest lady and will not put up with any nonsense.

Cabo is a great town, same for San Jose and La Paz. I love these towns for different reasons. Cabo has lots of tourists and that spells $$$.

Stuff happens down here and if a tourist can get fleeced, a fool and his money....

It's always a good idea to keep careful track of money during transactions and not take ''misunderstandings'' personally.

Tourist destinations seem to attract scammers. Just be careful -- and try to judge the situation rather than the culture or city or pueblo.

Yes, Cabo has culture and it was here before the tourists came. It's a MX fishing town that grew up.

Cabo is more than tourist clubs and those living down here know how great it is. Lots going on and it's just beautiful. World class food, great beaches, and best weather in the Baja.

Seriously, it's the foreigners who don't get it -- locals love it.

The restaurant unfairly put bogus charges on your bill? Take it up with your credit card company.

Provide details about the experience, otherwise you have no credibility.

Sorry Jan, but I think your wrong...not anonymous...he has been a nomad for years.... Ever been to Cabo?? very overpriced and rude...I have been going there since before the road was paved....seen all the "improvements", True, It has been 3 years since our last visit...but I know tourist gouging is an occupation there...a practiced art!! Kinda hard to "take it up with your credit card company" if you pay cash......I believe him and think others should as well.

waste of space??? how about your "a review of rosarito restaurants by virtual tourist" last week, half the reviewed spots have been closed for years!

Resorts like cabo tend to have a lot of drunk vacationers, I feel sorry for staff that have to put up with vacationing drunks on holiday. Who is ruder, Brits on holiday or gringos on holiday?

We have a local restraurant that offers 1/2 off on dinners once a week to draw in more business. However they jack up the prices on drinks, which are not posted anywhere, to exactly double what the are on other days. Also, the bartender told me that happy hour price do not apply on 1/2 off night and that is not posted anywhere either :fire:

Funny thing about those gin-mills, isn't it? People tend to get drunk. These places should be automated....machines that pour drinks in patron's mouths. Then they could get rid of those poor employees that have to put up with the drunks.
Who knows? Dump that bartender and the profits will probably soar.

At Panchos, at least in the past, the mariachi band was paid by the restaurant. And the employees made good money as well. I was friends with a number of them...many who attended my wedding. Not too sure about all the arm chair quarterbacking on this thread.....

I had fish tacos and they were very fishy (and I am someone who eats mostly fish). My husband had a combination plate that was decent. The chips were grease-laden and the maragitas were literally the worst we have ever had! Also, the mariachi band comes around and even if you ask them not to play, they do, and then expect a tip right in the middle of the meal. Also, the prices are quite expensive. I had lobster across the street the night before for half the price.

come on now Williard Guy...you drink "rot gut: gin and :any excuse to get drunk" beer...of course I don't expect you to understand....this place actually has cloth napkins and bathrooms with flushing toilets. I'd expect to find you down at El Toro Bravo instead checking out the Adams Apple Sisters

Maybe two months out of the year is really hot. But my other house is in Houston.
I will take cabo 100 times over. There is always a breeze here. And the people are nicer. And there are vunables.
