Colonet Flowers/Photobucket Nightmare

Ateo - 3-4-2013 at 10:14 AM

I'm doing this post partially as a test because Photobucket's new settings erased my automatic image re-size option. I just uploaded 70 photos to post here and they're all saying they're 1024Xwhatever instead of 800. Biggest epic fail of a website upgrade ever!!!!

Here goes nothing:

So does this appear too big on your screens? Looks fine on mine, but I got a big one. =)

nandopedal - 3-4-2013 at 10:26 AM

Very nice! and that size in my comp looks great.

Bob H - 3-4-2013 at 10:34 AM

Looks great. A big field of young mustard plants!

David K - 3-4-2013 at 10:34 AM

Hi Jon, yup... the already set up photos are the same, but when you add photos to your album you now (until they add upload options again) need to resize each photo... put your mouse on the album thump pic, a gear will appear in the corner, mouse on that, and you get a menu... click edit. Click Resize (top row of edit options)... on the width field only enter 800 or 640 (depending if you want full page or just large size photos here. The height figure changes automatically to match the width. Click Apply, check the box: 'replace original', click Save! The 1024 wide image on Photobucket is now at 800 or 640 pixels to fit nice here.

Ateo - 3-4-2013 at 10:44 AM

Here's the resized:

This new flaw on Photobucket is disgusting. How could they let a product this flawed be released onto their website?

Too bad, I really wanted to post my trip to Ojo de Liebre today.

No way will I resize all of these one by one.

Until they fix the site, here's a taste of the whale we named "Taxi":

Thanks for the confirmation Bob! As we passed I told the kids that was Mustard. Glad to know I was right!

David K - 3-4-2013 at 10:50 AM

Resized looks perfect... and it seems most Nomads don't have an issue with scrolling to the right to see the over-size photos or reading the text? The smaller size is nice for viewing/ reading... thanks Jon!

I am disappointed they don't have the upload options either... but they did say more features will be added...???

I just was asked to take a survey on Photobucket and boy did I let them have it. =)

David K - 3-4-2013 at 11:07 AM

Thanks! So are you back in Oceanside now?

Yep!!! Have an office day scheduled and was trying to post this report, cuz I'm leaving for San Felipe soon!

willardguy - 3-4-2013 at 11:13 AM

I hate the new photobucket, is there an alternative?

David K - 3-4-2013 at 11:13 AM

I want what you do!

Picassa ? sp? I suppose there are a lot of other photo hosting sites... but I already have thousands on Photobucket... so would like to keep it the same... It isn't too bad to resize each photo, just a few more steps before sharing on Nomad... and they will likely add the Upload options to their new site (I hope)... so they upload already reduced to fit this forum.

Bob H - 3-5-2013 at 12:35 AM

Picasaweb.com

It's sponsored by Google !! Great stuff there.

I am one of the Nomads who definitely DOES have an issue with scrolling to the right on a web page. Many of us have laptops with regular sized screens, so itīs extremely annoying and tedious to have to scroll to the right on that string of photos that someone posts without having resized. It also makes it impossible to see the entire photo on the screen without scrolling up and down as well. I usually skip those posts all together, missing out I am sure on some fantastic photos when I do, but itīs not worth the work and wear-tear on my hand and wrist.

I very much appreciate those who take the time to resize their photos, and I do it myself, so that we can all enjoy the viewing.

Hope Photobucket fixes the problem soon. Flickr works well for me.

SFandH - 3-5-2013 at 06:54 AM

I really dislike horizontal scrolling, especially when reading text. I use a netbook (11 inch screen) and a 1024 width photo results in the horizontal scroll bar. Thanks to those that resize to 800 pixels.

I use picasa http://picasa.google.com/ to store my photos.

BTW, when the horizontal scroll bar appears I use the browser zoom out to get rid of it. It makes it tough to read the text though.

BajaBlanca - 3-5-2013 at 08:20 AM

OK so I recently also got fed up with photobucket and searched for an online FREE alternative like I used to have and this is what I have downloaded:

http://www.pictureresize.com

Let's see if I can post one and you can tell me if it is the appropriate size. I resize right on my screen and rename the photo, so I know it is the smaller version. Hang on .....

NOPE. No go. I don't know how to then get the URL ... sorry. maybe someone else will be able to figure it out.

Good luck Blanca.

I recommend everyone upgrade their monitors. =) I have no issue with the larger photos on my desktop, laptop, or iPhone....

......and that iPhone screen is tiny.

:lol::lol::lol:

Hope to post my whale trip report soon.

Udo - 3-5-2013 at 08:52 AM

When I went to the www.picturesize.com an ad for century 21 came up.

I know that Shari uses http://picasa.google.com
And I see that SFandH uses it also.

When I stayed at Shari's last time I watched her use picasa like Steve Jobs used to use Apple. I felt like I needed a fire extinguisher at any time watching her use the keyboard as it was just at a smoke point.
That chick is quick!

I have a problem with MSN and HOTMAIL (seems that the gurus at Apple and the Microsoft retail stores are unable to figure it out (runs like molasses), so I'm thinking of changing browsers to either Chrome or Firefox. Both work fine, but Hotmail has all my passwords in it's autofill memory, and I would have to start over again.
The advantage of CHROME is that there are a lot of extra apps maximized for chrome.

Photobucket changes.

Oh yeah, Photobucket tossed me a curve ball when they changed their format, too.

I have no problem with the sizing feature, as I have a resizer function already in my Pictures program. This can resize multiple photos when transferring from camera to computer.

My problem with the new Photobucket format is doing a 'search'.

I have a few thousand photos on that site and I could always easily find one particular photo in my personal albums when I wanted to do a 'search' using the photo title or description. But now, that feature seems to have disappeared...or at least my ability to find it has surely vanished.

The current search window I find searches the entire Photobucket contents. Hundreds of thousands from all subscribers. I just need to search my own.

So...can any of you Photobucket users tell me the new method to search out a particular photo in one's own albums by using a pic title/description?

Hey, I promise not to flood Baja Nomads with too many old Baja pics..

SFandH - 3-5-2013 at 09:51 AM

Here's some software that will automatically move all your photos from one photo sharing website to another. Basic stuff with limitations. There may be other applications that have more features.

Really, this supposed upgrade is insanely counterintuitive. Could they have messed this up more?

I haven't found it either Roger. I see no way to search just your own photos.

New Photobucket Resizing (for now).

Blanca... after you upload a photo from your PC to Photobucket, put your mouse on the thumb image of the photo and then click edit (appears on the photo), then click Resize (at the top of the edit window), now change the number on the left (width) of the two to 800 (max on Nomad) or 640 (large on Nomad). The other number changes automatically. Click apply, check the box the asks to replace the original, and click Save.

I agree. Isn't Photobucket part of Yahoo? Every time they improve something they make it worse, they did the same thing with yahoo mail.

David K - 3-5-2013 at 11:02 AM

That they took away features that they know are used (Upload Options, resizing during photo uploads instead of having to do each one after uploading), seems counter-progressive! :light:

BajaBlanca - 3-7-2013 at 03:47 PM

I tell you what, they sure arent't listening very well. I myself have written numerous times to explain why I don't liek the new version.

I thought I was the only one who could not find my photos in the albums ...another glitch and a big one too.

Hope they fix all this soon ..

I don't understand why the resizer link does not work (and you are right Udo, it does not come up correctly) when I was able to download it to my laptop !

I have no toruble seeing full sized photos on my monitor but I really do hate it when the photos are so large that you are looking at a corner and then have to move mouse around to see portions of the pic. not fun.

chuckie - 3-7-2013 at 03:59 PM

I uploaded pics to photobucket yesterday, and I can view them but they wont appear in my library, so I cant do anything with them..They messed up a good thing..

monoloco - 3-7-2013 at 05:29 PM

It seems to want to sort by the date the photo was taken, instead of in the chronological order they were uploaded.

Here's what I can find out so far with the new Photobucket fiasco...and I'm still not sure of ANYTHING.

However, I may be on the right track.

To facilitate a certain photo search, I can click on the little downward-point arrow next to my user name...

...and then click on User settings..

...and then click on the Albums box...

...and then review Thumbnail settings and decide about what to do concerning Alphabetical by Title...whether or not to do that for just new photos...or to do it for all existing photos. OR to list by oldest first, newest first, or what?

I am somwhat leery of selecting all existing photos because of being cautioned that this id change might screw up all previous uploads since day one. Then the dreaded little blank box with the red X is all that will remain.

Good Grief, Charlie Brown! I now know the meaning of Angst.

Furthermore (as if I need any more)..what the heck is The Easy Linking Mode? I have the feeling that if I clicked on that box, all 11,000 photos would be sent to some Russian internet cafe. :fire:

Suggestions are implored.

Is it c-cktail time, yet?

I re-set my photos arrangement on the new Photobucket, as they were scrambled in each album. Re-organizing the order they appear has not (to me) changed any of my thousand or so previous uploaded photos sizing... they are all still at the 640 or 800 pixel widths they were originally uploaded at over the past 5 years.

David K - 3-8-2013 at 06:08 PM

Here is what the page looks like where you can change the arrangement of how the photos appear in your albums... I find 'Oldest first' is closest to the Old Photobucket's 'Alpha. by file name' (which isn't offered in the new site).

As Roger stated:
1) click the down arrow, next to your Photobucket name, top right.
2) click 'User Settings'.
3) click 'Albums' right below 'Personal Information', top left.
4) pick one of three choices under 'Thumbnail Settings': Oldest first, Newest first, Alphabetical by title.
5) check the box just below: 'Sort all existing albums the same way'.
6) Click 'Save' at bottom of page.

ALSO... The same screen appears when you click 'Update Link Options' after clicking on 'Image Links' to the right of your photo edit page.
