Daylight Saving Time

SFandH - 3-9-2013 at 06:54 AM

I'm headed to BCS soon and of course I'm driving through BC. DST starts tomorrow in the US, except for a few places, see video. What's the scoop for Baja (BC and BCS)? There always seems to be confusion, at least on my part.

I wish they would just leave the clocks alone.

i'm ALWAYS confused too

sunday april 7th for us in mexico
jump ahead one hour

sunday march 10th for usa
jump ahead one hour

SFandH - 3-9-2013 at 07:10 AM

Isn't it different for BC? I though BC switched to the US dates.

Yes. Baja California changes when the US does. BCS changes with the rest of Mexico.

Has been this way since 2010.

As I always point out at this time, since Sonora doesnt ever change, BCS actually jumps AHEAD of us in April. Seems counterintuitive, as one thinks of the peninsula being further west than anything on the mainland. But from about Loreto south, the peninsula is actually further EAST than parts of Sonora.

It's important to know when 2 for 1 happy hour starts. :tumble:

Very interesting, Hook. Central America is also farther east, Central time i believe. Good info! Tio

In fact, I do. TJ airport on Tuesday for a long-awaited trip back to La Paz.:yes::yes:

What time it is, is not important...

Until you arrive 5 minutes late at a ferreteria that closes for four hours in the tarde. Don't cry. It's only 15 miles (or 140) lost.

The definition of an ABIERTO sign on a window or door MAY mean the door is locked but as far as anyone knows the business is not closed forever.

I love the "horn" here in Asunción. "It's 7:30 AM!"

I was unaware of this until I took my boat across the SOC from Loreto to San Carlos. The course was a little west of due north.

If you live where the clocks were changed this morning, remember to change your NOMAD clock to (for times of posting)!

1) Click 'Control Panel/ Options', top right of page.
2) Click 'Edit Profile' (about 1/3 down page)
3) Go to last item on page: "Time Offset (GMT time is currently 05:38 PM)"
4) Change time zone to one hour earlier (here in CA it would be Pacific to Mountain time).
5) Click 'Edit Profile' at bottom.

You are done until next November!

Does anyone REALLY pay attention to the time of posts? And if so, why? :o

David K - 3-10-2013 at 11:46 AM

Seems like every year someone asks why the time next to new posts is off or on GMT... You see, having information is important for some. Information is something you can freely choose to use or ignore, so if anyone doesn't want to know how to reset their Nomad clock, they can ignore my reply.

I try not to get too dramatic with things like how to reset your Baja Nomad clock... but if it feeds your guys' needs, have at it! :light::yes::biggrin:

Yes, Diana, I do.

Ans. : So I will know when they posted, but that gets confusing when the "time" is incorrect.

Just got this info from Discover Baja --

In California, Daylight Savings Time begins Sunday,
March 10---so at 2:00 am, spring ahead one hour.
But unlike most states in the U.S., the state of Baja
California (north of the 28th parallel) will not change to
Daylight Savings Time until April 7th. The state of Baja
California Sur (south of the 28th parallel) does not
change to Daylight Savings Time.

This sounds new to me!
