Taking a Generator from Baja to San Diego for Repairs

Gypsy Jan - 3-10-2013 at 03:06 PM

We have a 30 KW Kohler generator light plant that we need to haul to San Diego for repairs.

Does anyone know the procedure we should take to import the unit back into the USA for a month, and bring it back to Mexico?

We purchased the unit in Southern California, put it on our ¾ ton pickup truck and drove it Otay Mesa border crossing point. All we needed was the bill of sale and proof it was a propane system. The import duty was much less because it was NOT fueled by gasoline or diesel fuel.

Now, there is a procedure where the Mexican government will allow equipment like this to leave Mexico for about 60-to-90 days and then be brought back into Mexico.

What is this procedure called in English and Spanish?

And does anyone know about this procedure and what we need to do prior get this matter handled before exiting Mexico?

I've taken mine up three times...

first take your pideamento (sp...the green sheet) to the aduna and get a letter to cross the unit into the states and return

crossing into the usa is nothing...just tell them what you are doing

after its fixed...go to otay and secondary
show the letter and you are thru

easy

what the thing doing?

The original SHCP Aduana importation bill will work like a charm. Just make sure what Aduana does for paperwork the second time has a full description of the unit plus serial number before you exit into the states.

Thanks, Bob and Susan and DavidE

The info supplied has been really helpful and we are checking our paperwork.

Bob, hubby sent an email to your website contact.

Thanks again.
