We saw our first whales today.
First one of the season heading south about 2:00pm.
And, it was about 50 yards off shore which means it's going to be a good year for seeing whales off the coastline down here.
Bad years, they are out 300 or more yards and hard to see when they go south. Good years, they are in close.

50 yards--Close enough to catch a ride!

Jr, Why do you think they are running close this year? Ive noticed some years they are way out and others they are at the beach. Never could figure
that out
I'm just guessing but,

I'd bet it has something to do with water temp. and "grocerys"

So more grub near the beach this year huh? Makes sence. I allways end up on the beach. Thats where the chilleys are
I think Debra called it

Groceries!

We have perfect reefs running out from our beach for "back scratching" which they always do going north. They have actually surfed in the waves here
and I expected to see them stranded on the beach. They were just putting on mre wax.
When they head back north, they always come in close but the southbound trip, we never know.
When we were looking for places here, we pulled in the driveway and a whale breached right in front of us. We then realized, "this is the place"!
As far as pictures, I will see what I can do. I already have so many spray shots but they are actually pretty boring.
When they are in jovial moods and frolicking, I'll try and get some better ones.
