Ok, I would like to capture a list of, The Best of Baja, and in this case, RV Parks.

I would like to categorize it by Pacific and Sea of Cortez.

Please provide the following, if possible:

1. RV Park Name

2. Location, if you can provide either GPS coordinates or a google map

3. Any information regarding pricing, contact information, web page etc.

4. Your personal experience, why you liked it or didn't. And when you went, what time of year, local attractions etc.

Campgrounds too, or just RV Parks that have hookups?

Don't forget Posada Don Diego in Colonia Vicente Guerrero just west of Hwy. 1.

Brisa del Mar in San Jose del Cabo was always our favorite. But alas, it closed about 7 years ago. Was slated for development, but nothing happened. The palm trees are dead and the whole place looks sad. This seems to be a trend. Places in the way of development close down because the land has become too valuable and other RV parks close or just go into disrepair because there is little traffic in RVs these day.

Seems to me there were lots and lots of RVs on the road in the 80's and 90's but for the past several years not many brave the road. And the irony is that the road is better than ever.

Here is Fred Metcalf's list on his site. Nothing newer than 2006 that I saw. Maybe Nomads that use RV parks could comment on some of them and if they are still open or not.

This probably belongs to "General Discussions". The topic is too wide. I've been to some of the places mentioned in that other thread and can tell that "best" is a rather individual criteria.

Malarrimo is small, basically a one-night stop, with a fair amount of noise coming from the main street right next to the camp.
Posada Don Diego is a faceless and dusty place, though spacy, enough room to park away from the neighbors.
Both places have a restaurant, but I am sorry, this is not a criteria of "best" in my eyes. I have a kitchen in my trailer, and restaurant always means a flow of transients that don't belong on the camp, with drunk talks and loud "goodbuys" at 11.30-12.00 in the night.

Some places are mostly filled with permanent residents, and make you feel like you don't belong there. I stayed sometimes a month, and was even considering a longer stay, but there was still same impression that I don't belong. People build barns and fences around their lots, park their cars and boats outside (i.e. taking space that they don't pay for), and throw their generators outside the fence perimeter so that they won't hear it, but you will. When living permanently, we tend to accumulate a lot of stuff that needs energy, so generators run almost non-stop. Solar... well, it takes labor and some brains, does it?

Some places that you might want to put on the list may disappear any moment - owners are keeping an eye on the market and if/when it becomes more profitable to sell the camp for development, they will.

We love stay at Juan and Shari's in Asuncion, great spot, even greater people. I think it was $12 or $14 a night but the 7th night was free.

lately just south of San Q we have been stopping at Cielto Lindo for the night, camps spots are ok and pretty cheap $5 some nights and $10 others, the power comes on around dusk. I really like the restaurant and bar, the last several times we were there the food was great and the Margarita's= tasty and 2 is my limit if I want to walk back to the RV

El Pabellon is stark but nice clean bathrooms, power and lots of hot water, $10 a night.

Still love Tecolote, its free but there are no amenities, what a beautiful spot and the fishing can be real good in the surf.

Hate to even bring this one up because Vagabundos closed, Villa Serena just to the east of Cabo is I think the only game in town around that area now. Its clean, has nice bathrooms, Wifi, ocean view and restaurant for $112 week. The biggest drawback is the noise from Mex 1.

We have also stayed at the little RV park in Puerto Escondido but it is pretty stark, gravel and weeds, nice bathrooms and I think it was $18 a night, the only bonus is the boat launch that doesn't seem to get too much traffic.

Guierrmos (sp?) in the Bay of LA isn't too bad if you get a spot out front, $10 night with power, restaurant isn't too bad either.

Kadukaman (sp?) is a nice clean little spot in Vizcaino with water and sewer, showers and a nice little restaurant, I think it was $12 a night.

Now for my want list-
A place in San Jose Del Cabo and a place that is clean and safe on Mag Bay, any suggestions?

The ejedo beach-front campground in La Venta if it's not too windy, 4$ a night?
Playa Norte, north of Las Barriles, great beach-front camping with all facilities for about 25 a night. No pool or hot-tub mind you. For that you have to stay in town, same price at East Cape RV resort.

Not an RV park, but nice dry-camping at St. Inez south of Catavina, 7 $ or was it 70 pesos?

Just and update on the campground in La Ventana, beach front camping is now $12/day ($4 was 10 yrs ago) and its windy from Oct.- April. It's a destination for hundreds of kiters and windsurfers so you won't be alone.

The El Morro Motel and "RV Park" in Loreto. More of a review than a recommendation. There are two remaining spots that aren't rented-out for storage. Priced in the teens in USD, and with marginal toilets, and showers. Lots of HOT water. Noisy. The only view is that of the tallest Date Palm in all of Baja. The advantage is to be easy walking distance to downtown attractions. For those who require it, English is spoken. There is good city water, power, and a 4" sani dump pipe. Malarrimo in Guerrero Negro offers a black water dump for just 60 pesos. My 18 gallon capacity requires that I know of such places!

Alright... As I predicted, the thread failed to answer the gentleman's original question - "the best RV parks". Or - camps. Not surprisingly so. Because the criteria of "best" have not been defined - and could not possibly have, being purely individual thing.

So what have we got, eventually, after a dozen or so posts... A list. Kind of. Alright, there is already a list on the web, and rather comprehensive at that, published 5 (or 7?) years ago, called Ontheroadin

... Categorized by areas. You click on the map area, then on the camp, and get the location, directions, and brief description. Sometimes with prices, sometimes without. But prices change anyway, do they?... About 90% accurate - one camp out of 10 would be closed or modified (like Gecko), but mostly accurate.

This is so boring...

geez, i wonder if mike odell in la ribera is still running his lil park...really nice place last time we were there and right down by the beach....

there was a really nice spot north of san bartolo that had a nice cactus garden..just off the hwy....

dry camped many times in a little park at the end of the road out of santiago at the hot springs...just stroll up the trail and jump in!..one of my favorites...no amenities except the hot spring...which made up for a lot!

a tiny little loop of about a dozen sites in cabo pulmo that seems always to be full of canadians..just steps from the beach...to the north of town a couple miles.

Don't forget San Lucas Cove RV park if you're a fisherman. The park is nothing out of the ordinary but launching is very easy. In fact, just leave the boat in the water. A bee bee gun for those pesky pelicans comes in handy.

A guy pulled into Campo Sirena while we were there. His huge bus, he told me in a conversation through a tiny window, weighed 40,000 pounds and was pulling a full sized truck full of water. He had seen the campground on line, and found the reality "Completely unacceptable". Fortunately he had brought his own house, hot water, shower, bathroom, and office! The facilities at Campo Sirena have a distinctly Mexican feel. I'm always glad to be welcomed there. This particular fellow...not so much!

Verdugos is best by far. I think it's 12 or 15$ a night full hookup great fishing and the Palapa Bar is outstanding. They also have a hotel. Verdugos Vacation Resort in Los Barilles Baja Sur.

San Lucas Cove is between Santa Rosalia and Mulege... Close to Santa Rosalia... See pages 130-131 of Camping Mexico's Baja by Mike and Terri Church (3rd Edition)
