Last nite the house I have been visiting was packed full of vaqueros from all over the Sierra who came down for yesterday's reunion gathering of the
cattlemen's association. We played music late into the nite and at abt 12 am I stepped out side to use the facilities as the tiny indoor bano was
busy. As I crouched near my truck I looked up and saw a HUGE bonfire and then realized that it was no bonfire but the palm grove across from Rice and
Beans was ablaze. I went back in the casa and soon all the group came out and we headed down the road on foot. Amazing that San Ignacio does NOT
have a volunteer fire dept. as when these palm groves catch it becomes an inferno with the smallest wind.
Soldiers came and went, policia came, abt 40 minutes into it the PIPA water truck showed up but if there had been a wind it would have taken off. A
palm tree on theR and Beans side of the road caught fire but the vaqueros jumped to and a tiny hose eventually appeared. I am sure that the travelers
at R andB were thinking of starting their engines.
Somebody needs to look into finding a truck/tank donation and training for a volunteer dept.......maybe it has been done and faded.

Glad it ended as well as it did!
Is San Ignacio part of a sister-city program with someplace in the US? If so, that may be a possible connection and path toward getting someone elses
surplus equipment.
Wild country pumpers are often available on any of several public surplus auction sites at very low prices. Not sure that's the best tool for the job,
but we have a bunch of firefighters who post here, and I'm sure they'll post here.
Seems like a very good idea, and I'm sure many will want to help.
