Grunion Run in the daytime at San Felipe, You Tube from Wayno, BB Bait

Thanks to Wayno for emailing this link to me to share to all of you!

Unlike the Pacific Coast, where grunion run (lay & fertilize their eggs) in the middle of the night at the highest lunar tide, the Gulf of California grunion 'do in' the daylight!

I remember seeing grunion running almost any night during the summers in Laguna----the heaviest runs were during full moon though.

It's worth trying some spawned out grunion for halibut right now.

Fishing from the beach during these rune can be out of sight, all kinds of critters show up for these spring flings:lol:

They make excellent bait... scoop some up, and freeze them for use later.

Nothing worked better for Calico Bass and Croaker, halibut, corbina, etc. !!

Yes, you saw what you saw at the end of the video when the camera swings around to the Malecon. That IS the new 7/11 being built that will be taking over the old Beachcomer spot.

Fishing just before the run while they are staging, during the run and after the run while they are still hanging around which can be a couple of days.

Just pin one on with a light split shot sinker, hook size depends on the size of the gunion, distance is not to important because they will follow them in close and hang on:lol:

A Kastmaster green/chrome will work great also, these runs are not to be missed!!

Tyson enjoying the Grunion Run a couple of years ago. They were on the Beaches North and South of us (Playa Hermosa/Bahia Santa Maria, San Felipe) as far as the eye could see that day...

Watching them doing it in daylight is the newest spectator sport in SF.

They are great fried, grew up on them in So. Cal.
Also as bait try salt curing them. Great for those summer time butts.
