Borrego Springs wildflowers 2013

tripledigitken - 3-29-2013 at 02:27 PM

Every year with go out in search of wild flowers, around their peak bloom. We spent this last Monday morning looking mostly in north facing canyons south of 78. Not a banner year due to the lack of rain. We ended up in Lizard Wash. This weekend should be a good time if you can make it.

coming out of Lizard Wash

the barrels were blooming

the Beaver Tails were close, but should be prime right now

these three stood out in the light

thanks for looking!

Very nice....I'm doing some trail work on Saturday along PCT up at Mt. Laguna and then headed to S2 below for a night of camping...maybe Pinyon Mountain or Carrizo Wash. Plan on doing a long run on Easter Sunday someplace out there...looking forward to the magic!

We are heading out in the morning. Great captures as always Ken.

Bajaboy and Frank,

Thanks for the comments. Have a good time out there manana.

You have to think small and walk around for the best rewards. Before 10am is prime time too, IMO.

Hey folks, what is the status of the area west of Vallecitos Stage Station that the park supposedly acquired a few years back? Have they opened that up to motor vehicles? This is the area west of S-2, south of Mason Valley and east of the Laguna Mountains.

I was just on the ABDSP.org website (the official park website is pathetic) and it makes no mention of that area and the map they label their "detailed" map of the park is from 2003 and doesnt even show the area as being part of the park.

Was there a snag in the park acquiring the land or something?

Nice pics, we're heading out to Borrego next weekend, can't wait!

Awesome, as always! They almost look 3D. Is that what the new Sony does or are you doing that in Light Room.

Ateo - 3-30-2013 at 03:01 PM

MAGNIFICENT. Thanks for posting.

BigOly - 3-30-2013 at 03:14 PM

Great things we can see! Thanks again Ken.

tripledigitken - 3-30-2013 at 04:55 PM

Thanks for the comments.

Russ,

The Sony was used with a 24mm Zeiss 1.8 on images #1 and #4. The close ups were with a macro Nikkor 105mm 2.8 on my D7000, that's what isolates the subject from the background creating the "3D".

That is all park land now. I ran out that way over President's Weekend. I ran about 6 miles out from S-2. Lots of new signs with a little history of the area. Yesterday, I was up above that area doing trail work on the PCT. I ended up camping down in Motrero Wash. Here are a few pics:

Thanks, Bajaboy. So, no vehicular access in that area? Only foot and bike traffic?

yes, from what someone told me, there is a lot of ancient ruins and artifacts out that way. I hope to get all the way to the base of the Lagunas. Also there is evidence of a water line/pipe that I'd like to get to the source. Here are a few pics from Feb:
