Audiologist recommendation in TJ

Bajaahh - 4-9-2013 at 03:17 PM

Im looking to bring my 85 year old grandmother down to TJ to buy a hearing aid. We have the prescription for it but Kaiser charges (they dont cover hearing aids) a ridiculous amount of money. We looked into Costco as well but they want over $300. What I need is a place to get her fitted for a new hearing aid that is affordable. An english speaking Audiologist would be preferable as well.
Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.
Gracias.

I followed up with the reference DENNIS posted and received this message just now from the Audiologist:

Hola janene gracias por la referencia, mira la consulta cuesta 45 dls y se efectúa un estudio audio lógico para saber que audífono es el más conveniente. Los precios de audífonos varían de 1200 a 1800 dls depende de tipo de auxiliar auditivo. Yo hablo un poco de inglés así que de alguna manera nos entendemos, gracias.

He is saying that the initial exam is 45 dollars and the hearing aid runs between 1200 and 1400 dollars. He said he speaks enough English.

There are many outlets for your needs.....

Do a little research on Google and you will be able to find many organizations that can help your Mother.

Buying or Wearing Used Hearing Aids

The first step is to determine if the behind-the-ear hearing aid is appropriate for your hearing loss. To determine this you will need to contact your hearing professional. The professional will then examine the prescription of the hearing aids, that is the amount of amplification and adjustment possible, and compare it to your hearing test results to determine if the hearing aids are appropriate for your hearing loss.

Second you will want to have the hearing aids inspected and tested by an audiologist or hearing aid dispenser to ensure they are still in good working order. If necessary they may need to be sent to the manufacturer for a thorough cleaning and/or repair. This may require a professional fee or manufacturer charge.

Lastly once the used hearing aids have been determined to be working and are appropriate for you, the audiologist or hearing aid dispenser will need to program them specifically for your hearing loss. This fine tuning may take more than one session in order to best meet your hearing and lifestyle needs. Although you may have received the used hearing aids for free or purchased them for a low-cost, you will be required to pay a fitting fee(s) to the hearing aid professional.

As always, thank you very much. I have never tried to see a hispanic physician but have heard many positive things so I thought I could help grandma out and save her some money in the process.
Gracias por su ayuda!
