Tbone - 4-10-2013 at 08:19 AM

Does anyone know the price of a 12oz can of freon 134 in Mexico. We are heading to BOLA with a slow leak in the A/C system and will be buying a few cans.

just bought 4 cans in Ensenada at 120 pesos each.

Thanks Bob.

Depends. I've seen it as high as 170 pesos.

I don't understand...why don't you get it fixed while in Baja...

it's way cheaper to fix here

even the high pressure hoses can be made

putting in Freon is like throwing money away

Well, maybe he IS going to get it fixed in Baja. He just wants to bring down his own R134 for after the repair. I've always found it much cheaper in the States than down here.

Besides, will Baja have the seals necessary? It's rarely the hoses. It's always the seals. Maybe he's bringing the seals down, too.

We thought we had it fixed, replaced both hoses, now think it is the compressor.

We are going to BOLA to fish and drink which is well worth a few cans of freon.

most newer vehicles have welded hoses so you must have an older vehicle...

when you drive a vehicles with a freon leak you damage the compressor

the compressor is the most important part of the air conditioner
when freon drops it causes the compressor to let air in and it overheats and burns

you’ll probably have to replace the compressor or the condenser if you abuse it

there’s nothing worse than losing a compressor when on vacation in a place with no replacement parts (BAJA)

you probably won't be able to drive the car with a broken compressor

when you have a freon leak…
it’s better to locate the leak...fix it....and THEN refill

Remember “Bring it to baja and for sure it’ll break”

BOLA is a good 10 hours drive from the border
bringing broken cars to Baja just isn't a good idea

Compressors are expensive! My 2008 Honda Civic blew thru 2 in a 4 month period due to a serpentine belt shredding and the belt being out of alignment. That sucked. I only had to pay for one of the compressors.

:(:(:(

You really need to evacuate the system with a vacuum pump first the refill it with the freon.
