Terrible Pavement

Bajahowodd - 4-22-2013 at 05:03 PM

I apologize in advance for not scouring the post about this.

First off, the highway surface conditions are way better in BCS than BC. That said, the stretch of highway between just South of El Pedregroso to just North of the BOLA turnoff is disgusting. It would be a disservice to say it was ridden with pot holes. It is all potholes all the time. The authorities responsible for that stretch of highway ought to resign.

You say it like it's a BAD thing?

(any dirt road is usually better than a pot-hole filled paved road, I will agree)

I believe the State, with help from the federal government, is responsible for the hiways (except withing town/city limits). That being the case, the same people providing the nice roads are responsible for that stretch. Seems to me, that area was repaved a couple of years ago leading me to believe that the contractor and government (who are probably long gone) at the time is to blame.

It's just the guys making the potholes are ahead of the guys filling them.

I shouldn't gloat but....

I drove through there 2 weeks ago at HIGH speed with no problems at all but....

I was cheating

This is the most bad ass Baja rig I have ever rolled in!

Thanks for letting me drive your rig Chris.

I just had to replace all four ball-joints on my Toyota...

she's not 4wd, but she's a Toyota, so hey, she's worth it!!

Also changed all the fluids and oils and flushed the radiator.
When we knock out the minor cosmetic bumps and bruises and repaint, her facelift will be complete.

Figure my loyal little Toyota will give me another 230,000 miles at 26 mpg-- she's a Toyota!!

I've been driving the highway of Baja Norte and Sur for some 30 years, and have never found the road in better all-around condition than it is now, a few miles of potholes notwithstanding.

That's the attitude!

Traveled the highway south of El Rosario several times in the early 1980's, which was enough time for the 1973 pavement to have worn away and we dodged pot holes like crazy to get south. The area around Punta Prieta seemed to be the most holed... Perhaps it was the furthest points from 'civilization' (El Rosario or Guerrero Negro)?

Speaking of messed up pavement, any of you drive into Bahia de los Angeles in the 1980's and 1990's?

That old Bay of LA road was a lot like the bad spots in the road to Bahia Asuncion are now, only all the way, and it was always HOT, and I could never afford AC. :):)

They pave a section north of the BOLA turnoff a little more than two years ago. I drove it as they were paving, and when I returned six weeks later the paving was finished and potholes already in place. Once you nail the first one you are reminded to slow down and keep an eye out for the rest, just like it's always been.

the old road thru san quintin was worthy of a silver medal (how about the road out to the old SQ la pinta)? but that LA bay road was the worst ive ever seen.:O
