Manitoba 2 months from now would be nice...BUT, I just got an email from the provincial wildlife people stating that a blight had killed every walleye in the province...None survived......

Yes, Ged...that article tells an old, sad story about fisheries Up North. But it's not just Up North, I've been aboard many a shrimper and seiner working at night in the Sea of Cortez, and the bycatch thrown overboard from these vessels breaks your heart. Huge mounds of it. It's a sad fact that the price paid for this bycatch is not worth the effort or expense to bring it to market...for now.

I agree with the writer's report that the burbot...or Black Mariah as we call it...is one of the tastiest fish in any Canadian lake. Now if only it had some scales, it would be marketable! My dad taught me years ago that when you caught one of these wild-looking critters, You had Shore Lunch Muy Sabroso!

The walleye population has reason to fear me....but not utter annihilation!

The only thing I can say about mosquitos, Timo1, is that my Canadian fishing license requires my blood type on it. :rolleyes:

I don't know about that .... I got bit up pretty bad in the Kamloops area.

I'll take mosquitos any day over the teeny black flies or those pesky 'white socks' in alaska.

Hear, Hear! Viva El Waldorado! I've often thought that should have been done a long time ago..combining my favorite table fish and favorite place to eat it!

The Ethnic Fish

A group of biologists got together in hopes of producing an untimate sport fish. The decided to cross-breed a coho salmon, a walleye pike and a musky.

After years of experimenting they finally produced one egg which hatched a newly "invented" fish. "Success" they began yelling while congradulating each other.

"Wait" one of the scientists stated, "What will we call this fish?"

They all got together in at attempt to pool their minds and come up with a meaningful name. The lead person the the group stated, "let's see, we had a coho, a walleye and a musky; we'll take part of each of those names to come up with a name for this new breed".

He continued, "co" for coho, "wall" for walleye and "skI" for musky. "That's it... KOWALSKI".



And that's the honest fisherman's truth....so help me.

Nearly needed a transfusion a couple of times in BC,the No-Seeams of Ida Norte nearly drove me crazyBut you ain,t seen anything or felt the sting like the monsters of Subic Bay PI,the barracks we lived in had no windows only screens,they would keep you awake at nite as they tried to tear thru,a guy yelling in the middle of the nite meant one made it thru and someone is bleeding,but the beer was the best I ever drank:lol:
