Medications and Dentists in Tecate?

fourninerpapa - 4-27-2013 at 11:17 AM

On our way to and from Baja we always stop in Algodones to buy medications and visit the dentist.
Our preferred route to Baja would be to skip the trip to Yuma and do all of our medicine and dental visits in Tecate.
Does anyone have any dentist recommendations in Tecate and are the prices and availability of medications comparable to Algodones?

Thanks

Norm

Interesting question. Those in motorhomes and 5th wheels shy away from Algodones in the summer due to the extreme heat. Tecate could be a good alternative since they could camp at Portrero state park which would be about 20 degrees cooler than Yuma or Winterhaven. The question is whether there is a good Tecate dentist at somewhat near the price of Algodones dentists.

Depends on your medications...

The cost...

Whether you insist on medicamentos patentes or genericos.

Interestingly enough, many Tecatitos used ti go to Tijuana for dental services.

gotta remember ....

The reason that Algodones has cheap dentist, eyeglasses, medications and booze is COMPETITION. Doubt that any dentist or pharmacy in Tecate has much of this.

"From a old Nomad Thread..
Dr. Gabriel Adame in Tecate..
He took over the business from his father who was the first dentist in Tecate.
His phone number is 619-631-4454. He is literally a stones throw from the border. 5 minute walk. "

A friend in San Diego has gone to Dr.'s Adame, father and son, for many years (30+) and could not be happier.

I don't know about that, Bob. Tecate's proximity to the border has made itself a popular destination for East County San Diego and other residents for cheaper dental work and other medical needs instead of paying high prices in San Diego and in the USA.

I received two recommendations for dentists in Algodones and one in Tecate. Those in Algodones are associated with Oasis Dental and the one in Tecate is Adame. Oasis posts estimated prices online and I emailed Adame for a comparison. All these dentists had glowing recommendations from more than one person so I'm assuming their work to be similar. There is a fairly large difference in pricing- for example Adame is 350 for a crown and Oasis is 180. Whitening is $200 at Oasis and $300 at Adame. For a further comparison my US dentist charges $900 for a crown and $350 for whitening.

I personally know Dr Adame and he is the best. That was my thread Mulegena quoted. I think his son has now taken over the practice. Their are full service and very affordable. I personally highly recommend them.
