Gulfsters Are You Having An Early Dorado Season Start?

DavidE - 4-27-2013 at 03:50 PM

Folks are complaining along the mainland Pacific Ocean coast about very warm water and poor species fishing. Like very few huauchinango. Looks like the upper Baja Pacific coast ain't doing so hot either. Has the cape dropped off as well?

Got my first of the year out of Loreto on April 12, which is about normal. Then the SST cooled and it's just recently back up into the 70s. There are also marlin in the area and squid as well, which could bode well for the pelagics this year.
We are due......

awesome photo as always Bill!

Nice shot Bill! Why is it that red lures only work in Baja? They have always been a producer for me down here but NOB forget about it! Even when the fish are gorging on red crab they don't touch them?

Blue and pink is one of the better color combinations for Dorado.
Purple and black are right up there also.
If anyone knows, it would be the Maestro Bill E. He has it dialed in like a fine tuned Rolex

It's a tricky game because, like the fly guys, you have to match the hatch. With dorado and other pelagics it is MATCH THE MIGRATING HATCH.

If the squid are in our bay, you need rootbeer colors, if there are schools of juvenile flying fish, you need blue and silver. When the billfish can't find bait, bleeding mackerel will entice them and when sargasso floats about we change to colors that match baby dorado (or pompano dorado - gulfino) > blinding green/yellow.

What is your theory on when light and dark purple colors work, osprey?

Osprey - 4-29-2013 at 05:49 AM

Skip, we don't have many cloudy days here so I save my purple stuff for wahoo. Do not ask me how that has worked out because I have promised not to use fowl language on this forum.

Aggh!

Wahoo and abalone....
Impossible dreams!

Come on David. You can complain about the wind but Lobster and Abalone y mas are all within your reach! And tons of Halibut and Corvina. Yellowtail and maybe Tuna. No Costco but you live by the Kingdom of the Sea. Reach out and touch someone like a Cooperativo! I'll trade you some Arrachera for some Abalone?! Hecho. :smug: Tio
