Malarrimo...spring 2005....

surfer jim - 11-10-2004 at 09:18 AM

Time to restart this subject with the idea of a spring break time frame.....let's hear some ideas....

Looking for other options at that time....

Hook - 11-10-2004 at 10:29 AM

Not lobster season. And it would seem a very cold and windy time of year to go to Malarrimo.

I am going to hold out for another attempt at Malarrimo in the fall.

Gotta think of some good spring options.

Gonzaga area would be a great spring time locale. We could pack the beach with Nomads! Lots of places to explore in the area - David?

yeah Bob

gonzaga has it all over malarrimo most any time.

Wont many Nomads feel like "been there,...

Hook - 11-10-2004 at 02:34 PM

....done that" when it comes to Gonzaga? It seems like so many trips have gone to there.

Also wondering just what are the interesting side trips from there? I am not familiar.

How about a Concepcion base camp with excursions to San Sebastian, San Juanico (the San Basilio one) and the outside arm of Concepcion?

Have a LOOK, LOOK, LOOK!:O:O:O

In Nov. 2002, my boy and I explored several points of interest near Gonzaga Bay... there are more, but these were very interesting! La Turquesa Canyon, Molino de Lacy, Mission era warehouse, Onyx springs and glacier, the Camino Real mission trail to California... all near Gonzaga!

http://vivabaja.com/1102/page2.html

In May, 99. We hiked up Santa Maria Canyon, past Las Pamitas and the Camino Real and saw this... in the desert a few miles from Gonzaga Bay!

An arial photo of the mouth of Santa Maria Canyon out to Gonzaga Bay. Baja Mur has labled the side wash to Las Palmitas, and where the previous photo was taken: Up towards the mission... and I added the El Camino Real label showing the side valley it takes to the Santa Maria mission, where you can park with 4WD (2WD park at 'Our Launch Site'), and the direction to the pools and palms.

Another area without much exploriation is the SEVEN SISTERS coastal area....I'm in the mood for someplace different....I think...

How About....

David K - 11-11-2004 at 10:07 AM

Near the Seven Sisters: http://community-2.webtv.net/boojum1/lostlake

There is a LOT of country between Hwy. 1 and the Pacific coast to explore.

David K, those are some interesting areas.

Hook - 11-11-2004 at 10:12 AM

Thanks for that.

SURFER Jim, it looks like it may be difficult to get you away from the Pacific side. What route would you propose for this. Another area I am not familiar with.

No worries; it's fun kicking around some options. Plenty of time.

You're welcome Hook.

Most go to Baja and hug the coast, looking out to the sea.

Neal Johns avoids the coast and hugs the canyons.

I enjoy both, so I hug the coast but look inland! I have been doing a lot more interior Baja trips and discover there is just so much Baja and so little time!

What constitutes the area you refer to as the Seven Sisters?

bajaandy - 11-15-2004 at 02:18 PM

I'd be up for a Pacific coast Spring Time trip!
I posted earlier that I want to do the road from San Antonio to the Seven Sisters. David K says he has the GPS waypoint for the start of that road.
What time frame are you considering?
Keep me posted.

David K - 11-15-2004 at 08:43 PM

You bet, it is in my GPS web site and right here on a post a little further down in this forum...

This is on Hwy. 1 south of the Chapala Valley, and just south of the 1973 water truck road to Calamajue canyon, which was the short cut to Gonzaga for ten years before the road was graded from Laguna Chapala to Coco's Corner.

Set your GPS map datum to NAD27Mexico before entering this way point...
San Antonio and Pacific coast road: 29?17.19'/ 114?13.66'

surfer jim - 11-16-2004 at 01:16 AM

Seven Sisters refers to the coastal area from Santa Rosalillita north to Punta Blanca...maybe start near Catavina and head to coast then south and exit paved road at the Escalera Nautica:o...

bajaandy the road from rancho antonio is a tough road and should only be traveled in pairs. i did it by my self in my fj40 and it was very slow going and if you break down its a long way back. the rewards are the ruins of the old ranch wich 20 years ago had several adobies and palm trees with running water. a neat place to explore and a way to get to punta blanco with out going all the way around. the road is shown on some of the older AAA maps and the first part from the pavement is the worst and gives way to a typical baja dirt road through large cardons.

The San Antonio turn off on hwy 1 is at KM252. I've been both ways several times. Easier going in from hwy 1 as you'll be going down hill before the coast. There are/was two ranches on the way. One past San Antonio a couple of miles and another near the bottom of the hill near the wash. As usual in Baja the rains could make the road difficult. David K said someone had used/found a road near San Antonio that joined hwy 1 further south closer to the LA Bay turn off. My next trip in there I'll be looking for it.

David K - 11-16-2004 at 06:18 PM

TW, it was Steve (4baja) that told me he came out from the San Antonio road closer to the Bahia de L.A. jcn., than the road shown on the map that I GPSed... Steve, did I understand you correctly?
