Lobster restaurant recommendation

bajagrouper - 5-4-2013 at 06:28 PM

I am looking for a good lobster restaurant in Puerto Nuevo for a special event...hanks in advance......

woody with a view - 5-4-2013 at 06:34 PM

half way house!

In season?

Whale-ista - 5-4-2013 at 06:42 PM

Lobster season ended in march, didn't it? Is anyone still serving fresh?

Lobster Season in North Baja is OVER

The Puerto Nuevo restaurants keep operating on frozen lobster from down south. There have been many scandals/busts because they serve undersized lobsters.

Vince's Restaurant in downtown Rosarito brings in fresh lobster from the fishing cooperativos that are taking catch legally.

Woody X2.
That food is soooo good! Some of the best meals in Baja are served there.

anybody have an address or location ( town ) where the half way house is?

Get off the toll road at the next exit south of Cantamar and continue south on free road. North of La Mision and south of sand dunes. Half way to Ensenada from Tijuana, Media Camino in Spanish.

Thanks David, any kilometer number?

It's half way between Ensenada and TJ. I'll bet you can come real close with a map.

The restaurant kinda sits by itself with a large street side parking lot and a big water tank/tower on the south end.
You can't miss it.

The Half Way House (Media Camino):

July, 2010:

Filet mignon and Chicken Cordon Bleu (with Caesar salad and cheese cake) and three cokes... total cost $28!

On the AAA Map, it is by Punta Mesquite, just south of the toll highway off ramp, 3 miles south of Cantamar...

From TW (Km. 60, but perhaps that is on Toll Highway?):

Kilometer numbers for Hwy 1:

KM 0 TJ
KM 36 Rene's Resturante before old toll gate
KM 52 Cantamar sand dunes
KM 60 Half Way house resturante
KM 70 Beach area past La Fonda
KM 78 Bajamar
KM 84 Overlook
KM 99 Last Toll Gate
KM 105 Jct with Hwy 3 from Tecate

From memory, it sits on the oceanside about K53+-. Take the next exit AFTER Cantamar (the area with the large sand dunes) and make a left then an immediate right.

Yeah but that was in 2006. Any newer visits?

David K - 5-6-2013 at 11:28 AM

The first two photos of mine above were in 2006 and the next two were in 2010. I have many more, posted here on Nomad... use Search. But nothing brand new.

bajagrouper - 5-6-2013 at 01:24 PM

Thanks all for the location, it appears the picture of the chef and busboy have enjoyed too many lobsters..........LOL

David, Those Km markers are for Highway 1D

Gypsy Jan - 5-6-2013 at 01:44 PM

Not Hiighway 1 (the Free Road or Carreterra Libre TJ-Ens).

Km 53 is the correct address for the Halfway House since it is located on the Carreterra Libre, not 1D (the toll road). If you are on the toll road you very well may pass by it at the 60 Km mark, but I am not going up there time soon to verify this.

Exit the Toll Rd. at the Cuenca Lechera sign and turn south, the Halfway House is about one half mile from the turn, on the ocean side of the Free Road.

As was mentioned before, the place is clearly signed and has a large, easy to enter parking lot.

We haven't visited for a couple years, but from all indications, Chef Jonny is very happy doing his own thing there. I have heard that he travels a lot giving cooking lessons in many places, including cruises.

That's what I thought and is why this was posted with the KM. markers: "From TW (Km. 60, but perhaps that is on Toll Highway?)"
