Bringing meat into Baja

Hello everyone. Are there any restrictions on bringing meat in Mexico? I want to bring a brisket with me down to San Lucas Cove so I can slow roast it on the bbq. Just want to know if it is "legal" or not.... would suck to have a $60.00 piece of meat confiscated.... Even if it is not legal, it will probably mysteriously end up in the cooler some how..

In all the trips south over 40 years they've never looked inside of our ice chests. Suppose they could look, but I do not know the rules insofar as importing food for personal use.

There's a meat market downtown Ensenada that sells everything. I just got a monster pork butt for the smoker.
This place has a half dozen cutters working all the time and supplies most every restaurant that's not on wheels.

La Canasta........There's more than one, [two or three] but the main store is the biggy.

I don't have the particulars on the location right here, but if anyone's interested, let me know and I'll get them.

We normally take an ice chest full of meat down to our place each summer and we've had our ice chest checked many times crossing the border. They normally ask how long we are staying and then seem okay with it. Coming back north is a different story however. We normally have a big bbq and invite the neighbors over before heading back north with an empty ice chest.

When I flew into SJD in March, I had two corn beef and 3lbs of Jimmy Dean sausage in my checked baggage. On the back of the customs card I checked the first box which states that one has a number of things, one of which is meat.
I handed the guy my form, he put it in the stack already in his hand and told me to push the button. I got the green light and headed to the door. A couple of young ladies stopped me and wanted to know what I had in my carry-on bag. I said galletas, showed them the cookies and was out the door.

I know that you must be driving but this is info for anyone flying. Basically, I didnt lie and knew that the worst thing that could happen was confiscation.

Going north on Reforma you turn left at Juarez and at the very next corner turn left again on Granada and its on the next corner.

Smoked Pork? Isn't that high in sodium content?

It's only as high as the salt you add with rubs and BBQ sauce.

Ever time I go to the states We bring back Bulk Pork Sasuge and Uncured Apple Smoked Bacon from Trader Joes. That's two things I really like and cant find down here .
I have never had a problem with any food stuff coming South. Going North is another story.

It's been years since this happened. Crossing from BCN to BCS, the Agriculture guy asked me if I had any meat. I had none. He asked if I had fruit, veggies or plants. I said no. He boarded my RV and checked out my fridge and freezer. I offered him a Coke and he refused.

If I were traveling with the above stuff, I'd hide it and not admit to having it.

Crossing into the US, I don't recommend lying.

I usually bring a chest freezer full of Elk, antelope and venison south...I always put a big marksalot sign on top "Illegal meat for Mexico"...DUH, one brisket?

Never had a problem and they have looked in our cooler a number of times..just do not try and bring it back
