The translation is palpable, but what throws me is the "tubing" part.

bajaguy - 5-8-2013 at 07:28 AM

Maybe the Oscar meyer Weinermobile???

Lauriboats - 5-8-2013 at 07:30 AM

Maybe they are referring to the railing around that back of the hummer where the military guys ride.

Sorry...my link shows up well....

I assumed it was a "Barney" mobile which is made of welded tubing to provide frame etc for use with VW bus steering, engine, transmission etc.

Maybe a tube-frame rail?

Isn't KM182 near Pete's Camp, or the Pemex?

ORIGINAL Spanish:Un grupo la 7 solados resultraron lesionados cuando el vehiclo Hummer en el que viajaban sobre a carretero a San Felipe volco, traschocar contra un vehiculo entubado que se le atrviso al paso, el cual era conducio por un turisto estadoundense.
Based on 3 different translations =:
A group the 7 resultraron soldiers injured when vehicle Hummer they were travelling on a highway to San Felipe capsized, traschocar against a vehicle tubing that is le atrviso to the passage, which was led by an estadoundense turisto.

MAYBE Transation would be different in Mexican instead of Spanish?

The photo says all...

Km 182 is South of Campo Ocotillo by about half a kilometer. Near the Pelicano grocery store, which is just before the newest Pmex. Petes Camp and the Pemex at road into El Dorodo is North of this by at least a mile

Tube???

bajaguy - 5-8-2013 at 06:10 PM

Maybe the guardrail????

This is just about the same place one of the Saltido Road Pemex employees died in an accident when he had a blown tire and crossed the median strip and hit an on coming SUV about two weeks ago.

They were great.....

captain4tuna - 5-9-2013 at 09:06 AM

Ok...thought I had posted some pics with the Army towing us out of a situation we were embarrassed to be in.....lol....I guess I better go read the thread on how to post pics.....

Bwana_John - 5-9-2013 at 10:00 AM

How many times have you seen a buggy or rail not stop before they crossed Mex 5 in that area?

It is not as bad as it used to be before the major road improvements, but we still see people that seemingly do not realize they are crossing a major road when they come to the Hwy.

captain4tuna - 5-9-2013 at 10:07 AM

ok let's try this again......Stuck and the military came to our rescue.
They were awesome.....

Wow. I went online in an attempt to find a Mexican (rather than Spanish) translation for the word entubado. I clicked on a link for Wiktionary and this is what they had under the word 'Mexican' as examples of use. Hater much? Except for the example about the dog, this is very negative and kind of shocked me. And I can't find a Mexican-to-English online translator. Anyone else find one?

Examples of use:
•I hate Mexican food
•Mexican food is hot
•The toy company went bankrupt after the competition hired cheap Mexican labor
•a Mexican Hairless is about the size of a fox terrier and hairless except for a tufts on the head and tail
•financially hard-pressed Mexican hotels are lowering their prices
•this Mexican town has become a narco-state that ships 100 pounds of cocaine to the United States every day

I think Mexicans refer to their language as "Español".......Spanish.

Correcamino - 5-9-2013 at 06:20 PM

Looks like "entubado" is not only a Mexican term of art, but a mostly NE Baja California term:

http://www.olx.com.mx/q/entubado/c-380

Note most of these rigs are in Mexicali. Never heard "entubado" down near La Paz; not enough dunes?

What I gathered from your link is the term means "tube frame" as I noticed the word "tubular" alone.

Maybe Ferna will see us fighting with this word and straighten us out.
I can't believe we don't have any real Mexicans on this board. :o

gallesram - 5-10-2013 at 11:28 AM

It refers to a dune buggy.

grace59 - 5-10-2013 at 05:46 PM

The man involved was driving a Barney Buggy. He was transported to a hospital in San Felipe and then up to Mexicali. It was reported by friends of his that he was arrested after the incident and was under armed guard. Don't know this for sure as I am not there right now. Just see what his friends have posted on another group. Luckily, everyone survived. It was first reported that there were fatalities. The accident happened in front of the Pelicano Market.

bajamedic - 5-11-2013 at 10:06 AM

Can someone clarify what a “Barney Buggy” is? I am imagining a Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble type of contraption with their feet providing the power. JH

Kgryfon - 5-11-2013 at 09:44 PM

Of course it's Spanish. There is also a definite Mexican dialect that is different than proper Spanish, Puerto Rican Spanish, Costa Rican Spanish, etc. The same words often have very different meanings, and each has their own set of slang. I'm sure you know this so I'm wondering why the snarky remark. So, to be more clear, I was looking for a Mexican dialect-Spanish to English translator but was unable to find one.

A short wheelbase, VW powered dune buggy built by an American in the San Felipe region, that was named for the Flintstone's car... The late Baja Lou used to fix them for his friends as Lou was a mechanic wizard.

akshadow - 5-12-2013 at 09:59 AM

to view picture of type of vehicle go to image 14 on the following page http://www.clublasamigas.com/2012-poker-run.php

And while there, take a look at picture 6, that's me and it was after I had the side tube cut out so I could get in and out easier. Well, when we go to the desert every Friday for lunch, we make a lot of stops which involve a lot of in and outs.....
