New Golf Course To Open Soon-Ensenada

lizard lips - 5-11-2013 at 07:25 AM

I had lunch with my good buddy golf course architect Enrique Valenzuela who designed and built the Baja Country Club and several other courses in Mexico last week. He was contracted to build a nine hole par three course in San Antonio (wine country). Each hole will be exactly like a par three from several different courses like Augusta, TPC, Pebble Beach, etc. There will be two seperate tee boxes from different yardage. There will also be lights so you can play until 12 midnight. It should be finished by September.

We passed through there the other day and noticed the heavy equipment profiling the hills and thought if they are going to build something there why are they not leveling the ground. That whole area is growing so fast it's amazing.

I always thought a "Pitch 'n Putt" course would go well around here.
Where did I see, just the other day, golf instruction being offered to kids in Ensenada.

rts551 - 5-11-2013 at 09:09 AM

My god! What is Baja coming to?

David K - 5-11-2013 at 09:12 AM

Dan, are they building a Libremente (sp?) highway around Ensenada as they have in other Mexican cities to avoid city traffic you are just going through?

I'll bet the neighbors will love that.

Neighbors don't matter in Mexico. "Lust for Life and Money" is everything......and then some. :fire:

Dennis,

Don' t you have a miniature golf course in your backyard? You could make big bucks by opening it to the public!!

Bypass Route

Yes, they are constructing a bypass route, mainly for commercial vehicles (large trucks) to get them off of Hwy 1 (Reforma) through Ensenada.

The route heads east/south from Hwy 3, just north of Hwy 1. It will bypass Ensenada and rejoin hwy 1 just south of ElZorillo, south of Maneadero. There are 3 off ramps/exits that lead off the bypass so cargo can be delivered into Ensenada.

This will be fantastic for us who have no love for city streets and city traffic when driving down Baja! :bounce::light:

By the looks of the map, and description, this will be quite a lot longer drive as it is going WAY around the east side of town, in the hills. It will be interesting to compare the drive times through the city with all the traffic and signals vs. the much longer loop around the mountains to the east.

It's my understanding that the truck route is to begin around the Tecate Road [as in the above picture] and end in the NE corner of the city near the dam, bypassing town traffic, but rejoining Reforma/Highway 1 around that point. No relief for traffic through the SE section of town....past Costco, Walmart, etc.

Makes little sense to me....a good job half done.
We have to wait and see. :?::light:

David K - 2-12-2014 at 11:57 AM

Bajaguy said it will rejoin Hwy. 1 SOUTH of Maneadero, which is a total city/ valley bypass. That makes sense, but how many years to get it all done?

Patience, grasshopper.

Schedule dependent on vagaries of government funding.

I hope he's right.

Map

bajaguy - 2-12-2014 at 04:33 PM

I think Doc has a map of the project.

The first section will be from Hwy 3 to Ruiz Ave in the n/e part of town.

FYI....the contractor who is currently building the bypass is also doing the La Bufadora road.

DENNIS - 2-12-2014 at 04:40 PM

I think that's the map I saw.
OK.....first section, eh.

bajadock - 2-12-2014 at 05:20 PM

Interesting hijack of a golf thread. But, the Ensenada bypass map looks kinda, sorta like the 18th at Pebble Beach. And it comes darn close to the Baja Country Club entry. I'm certain that the city movers/shakers will provide their own off/on ramp to BCC.

But, will Trailero Tacos move 2 miles inland or simply open a sucursal up in the hills to catch their potential lost business?

It's coming to what gringos want.

astrobaja - 2-16-2014 at 10:36 AM

Oh great - a golfcourse! Another gargantuan waste of water in an area that is in the midst of a drought already!

greengoes - 2-16-2014 at 10:53 AM

Has anyone else received their invitation for the Grand Opening of Punta Brava? Red sent mine and absolutely guaranteed it will be open June, 2014.

There was a press release they finished the desalinization plant out there so water will be a non issue.

More updates to follow.

lizard lips - 2-16-2014 at 12:42 PM

The new course in Guadalupe Valley is a 9 hole par 3 and the only grass is on the greens and tee boxes. Very little water will be used.

The Punta Brava course is still a dream and will NOT open in June 2014 or even the entire year. Nothing has been done to the proposed course. I really doubt the project will ever be done.

So much for the comments that the commercial development in San Antonio will be kept at bay...

Greengoes, not only have you become much more friendlier on the board, but it appears you are popular with the "IN" crowd. Was the invitation addressed to "Greengoes" or "Katz Enterprises"?
