flyingpigs58 - 5-12-2013 at 06:20 PM

Heading into Ensenada with our RV and was wondering if anyone out there has any info on the local RV parks. The best, the worst and why. Very open to feed back as this is a new RV experience for us. Thanks!

bajaguy - 5-12-2013 at 06:34 PM

if you want an ocean view, quiet and security, try Estero Beach Resort

Yep...for sure. There are very few RV parks...only one in town....and to save you the trouble of sorting it out with the pluses and minuses of the others, take Terrys advice above.
If, on the other hand, you have special needs or something like that, tell us what your requirements are.

Estero...

Rv Parks

J.P. - 5-12-2013 at 06:50 PM

I agree with the other two posters some what. On a scale of 1 to 10 Estero is about a 5 from there it goes downhill It's really sad there isn't any better Ensenada has a lot to offer.

Las Canadas

durrelllrobert - 5-12-2013 at 06:53 PM

If you have children this is the place because they also have a very nice water park and a zip line. It's about 10 miles south of Maneadero

edit: here is their web site:

Actual Ensenada is a dump, avoid it. South suburbs like Chapultepec is what you need. This is where Estero Beach is. And a couple of adjacent camps, cheaper - Mona Lisa and El Faro, all on the shore. I think Estero Beach is the most expensive of three, and none of them have actual swimming beach. You didn't tell what you are looking for. To me, all three are out of the same barrel, so to speak, so the cheapest wins. To you - don't know.

DocRey - 5-12-2013 at 09:00 PM

Howdy, Per my latest edition of "Baja RV Camping", Moon Outdoors (www.Moon.com), Laura Martone...

2. El Faro 7 OK, $15-$25 646-177-4630 Mex.

Joker

bajaguy - 5-12-2013 at 09:07 PM

Cross the Joker off your list. The place is closed down and has been leveled....as in torn down

DocRey - 5-12-2013 at 09:11 PM

Of course the above info didn't quite post in the format I had on my screen, but what the hell do I know? I'm a newbie.

bajaguy - 5-12-2013 at 09:17 PM

King's Coronita is not bad, located next to Hotel Coral and the yacht basin. El Faro and Mona Lisa are dumps.

If you don't mind a short detour off of Hwy 1, try Villarinos at LaJolla, Punta Banda. Behind the Mini Market and Post Office

DocRey - 5-12-2013 at 09:28 PM

The book list at least 8 in the Punta Banda area alone.
Interesting to hear the diversities in opinions. They're appreciated.

vgabndo - 5-12-2013 at 11:51 PM

We stumbled into the Punta Banda area looking for any safe flat spot and found lots of signs to RV places that didn't exist any more. We kept going up and over the hill toward La Bufadora and found Campo Cinco. It is minimal, and if you should go to the beach, it is likely you've had a fatal accident, but for 80 pesos, we passed a nice night with a beautiful view.

Alm - 5-12-2013 at 11:59 PM

Well, I'm not sure whether Punta Banda can be considered "Ensenada". Besides, it would be interesting to hear the opinions in the context of the OP's requirements - but their requirements have not been disclosed. Alright, they are newbie, and can't be more specific. So, we are stirring an empty water here, with subject too broad.

flyingpigs58 - it's simple, really. None of the camps in this area are destination places. Just a stop on the way. If you are worried, choose those expensive. If not, just trust your guts and don't stay where you don't feel like.

chuckie - 5-13-2013 at 02:51 AM

Overdue on the Joker

cliffh - 5-13-2013 at 09:20 AM

The majority of the state of Baja north is considered Ensenada.I live in Punta Banda and have a Ensenada mailing address.

Right, John. That would be the Municipalidad de Ensenada........same as we would call a county up north.

Dump? While Ensenada is not eye catching, one could clasify most of
Mex a dump if one is narrow minded, worked with a guy
at the San Onofre Nuke plant, who said he spent 7 yrs.
in G Negro, my reaction was ' what made you sit in that
wide spot in the road', he was a supt. at the Salt Works,
I remember him saying 'you can find beauty anywhere',
that's a phrase I carry with me

I think La Jolla Beach Camp is the best in the area. Hands down. Been camping there for 13 years. More bang for your buck and just great people in the area.

This is one more reason why the discussion can not be productive. Not only they OP didn't tell "what" he needs, but also "where".

Leo - 5-13-2013 at 03:41 PM

Estero is the place if you like full hookup, nice pool and hot-tub and a nice view. A bit expensive for mexican standards but it is also safe if that's important to you.

Ooooooo This Is My Kind Of Humor

I hope Campo Playa isn't still as bad as the last time I stayed there (1992).

Nothing worked right. Of course what sites services that did work were right up against the fence for the avenue where I guess they used to test cars to see of they worked better without mufflers.

Estero used to be pretty isolated. How's the restaurant scene now?

Maybe it's not.
If you mean the RV park in town, across the street from Tutti Donas, I think it's history.
Went through town today and saw , from a block away, big "For Rent.......all or part" signs on the fence. Didn't have time to check it out.

Overpriced, yes. Safety... When I stopped by El Faro - bordering the Estero - there was a gated and manned booth at the entry. Seems to be same safe. Locking everything when leaving the camp is a must, anyway.

What I like this forum for, is that we can talk, and talk, and talk... Some "happy hour"...

Without a clear direction this is going nowhere. What are they - OP- looking for? Why, and incidental question - where in Ensenada? To spend a few days in "Ensenada county", to see what Mexico feels like :) ?... Then they won't see anything. Baja is not like the mainland, and this area is not like the rest of Baja either. Or - to spend a night before going some other place? Then toss a coin, one night doesn't matter where, though I would rather stopped a bit further South.

Even though Mario, the last restaurant/ bar manager, has passed away it is still top notch for sea food, steaks and high end Mexican food

flyingpigs58 - 5-14-2013 at 06:49 AM

Thanks for the feed back. It looks like we will be getting some dental work done in and around TJ or in Ensenada. Found a place called Baja Seasons RV Park, about 30 minutes north of Ensenada. Has anyone heard anything about or visited this location in the past?

It really used to be a upscale place Back in the day it was around 60dls.a day the economy really hit it hard. There used to be a lot of long term Trailers and R.V.'S there but the place is almost vacant now. my only complaint other than price was it's in the Middle of no where. There is a new place right next door to it but I have never seen much action there nor is there any signage to the Name. It's hard to tell or recommend what kind of rv park you need not knowing what kind of rv you are in and how mobile you will be when you get parked.

Thank you for all of the replies. i guess we do need to give more details. We have a 97 35' Safari Diesel with a 98 Honda tow car. Nothing fancy but clean, shinny and in good shape. We can dry camp for a week at a time but not our first choice. We are planning to stay 10-30 days to check out Baja to determine if we will spend a season there each year while retired (winter most likely). Monthly rates would be nice. Estero doesn't give much discount for monthly as best I can tell. We would like to be near a town with services but for this trip it is not necessary. Just afraid of arriving and not having a place to stay or having to stay somewhere that's uncomfortable. The thought of paying more in Mexico than in the US is a little troubling as well. Tips for security are welcome.

Looks like you have a nice Rig . on a side note my other half is going to a Dentist in Maneadero, She just had Caps put on her front uppers an today she had a root canal to be followed up by a Post and Crown. She really likes the Dentist.and the price is much more reasonable than in the States. If you are Interested you can P.M. me and I will give you information on the Dentist.

If you choose to go that route Villirenos in Punta Banda would work for a r.v.

Big with the Snowbirds, but it's out there, like between everything you want.
It's also windy as hell, but that's Pacific side Baja.

Villarino's is good and safe. Your tow car will make it easy to get around and explore the area and the wine country. Often times there are community events that you can walk to from Villarino's

The quoted/posted rates at Estero are just that. I Know people who stay there in the winter every year and if you pay cash, you can negotiate them down about 50%
