The Rotties are Seven Months Old

Hubby hasn't downloaded - so pics are coming.

But, seriously, have you ever been herded by Rottweilers who have decided that meal time is NOW!

They work together and gang up on me at my desk with flying tails beating against me. The nudges are gentle, no biting involved, but they are intense.

I still made them wait until the scheduled dinner time.

So since Rotties are guard dogs are you concerned about security where you live?

No, not so much.

They do not bark on a regular basis and they never growl or threaten.

They recognize people who regularly come and go, but, they do stand their ground and are very vocal (it's like having a pair of the world's loudest repeating air horns) when strangers arrive.

Once they are convinced that all is OK, they ignore the visitors.

I did a roof in a hispanic area, my latino roofers would not go in the back yard with a Rottie to clean up so I went, I put my closed fist, to the reclining dog he growled at me, I picked up some debris and got out. When I went back to get paid, I told the owners wife of my encounter with her dog, she said quote " you went in the back yard with that dog, I won't go back there" and you have 2, I wouldn't trust them.

805Greg, Rottweilers can't be left in a backyard without direction, interaction or control. Without socialization and work with their human owners, they will make decisions on their own, including being very territorial.

An acquaintance of ours, a smart doctor, bought a Rottweiler puppy for protection from a breeder; a puppy with all kinds of credentials and she put him in her backyard in Pacific Palisades. He got big and was ignored. She had a party and the guests went out back and the dog bit someone, resulting in a lawsuit,

A Rottweiler is not a first owners dog.

Skipjackjoe, I write about the Rottie puppies because they are Baja dog rescues - they were given to us on the sidewalk of our Rosarito vet when we were taking our dying Rottweiler in. He gave us the female and then called us to take the male because he didn't like the Mexican family that wanted him and refused their money.

Dogs don't get treated well in Mexico lots of times, we all know that. We saved along haired dachshund found in the estuary north of GN. He was a mess but a fine little guy now. Blanca saw him the day after we picked him up and loaned a bucket so we could wah him. Now that he is well he is fine with everyone but Mexican men and kids. "Guapo" goes into defense/attack mode......look out ankles. That's who hurt him when he was on the street and he won't forget it. Our other Baja dog was found as a pup, also in GN, before she could be hurt and she is fine with everybody

Oh, Jan, don't turn that sweet Rottie from a fine, well-mannered little boy into a hardened computer hacker-- just give him your Nomad password or--better yet-- set him up his own user name and avatar!
