My casual guess is La Purisima, looking east... seems like the slope of El Pilon. My second guess is Mulege... if I get two!
I don't get anything putting my mouse over, but I am browsing with Chrome, not IE.BajaBlanca - 5-16-2013 at 09:32 PM
Nope and nope.
Next time i will make it harder Woody ((((: Thanks for not spoiling it.Ateo - 5-16-2013 at 09:41 PM
Old Santa Rosalia? =)David K - 5-16-2013 at 09:53 PM
Well, just because the photo link says Santa Rosalia doesn't make it so... Old Santa Rosalia was a French mine town and had none of those Mexican
style buildings, as that photo shows...
A couple of 1953 photos of Santa Rosalia from Howard Gulick:

Nope.
Geez, i got a good stumper!
Trust me, i bet almost every single nomader has been here at least once. If not more.
Spot on point David! And those photos of Santa Rosalia are great. Thanks for sharing.Bajatripper - 5-17-2013 at 06:28 AM
My first reaction was La Paz, but then I noticed that the hills in the background seem too close to be from the plaza. Perhaps San Miguel de Comondu.ElCap - 5-17-2013 at 07:38 AM
Isn't that the patron saint of San Ignacio, San Ignacio de Loyola, in the foreground? Then it must be San Ignacio!David K - 5-17-2013 at 08:37 AM

By golly, I think you got it... the photographer was on the steps of the San Ignacio mission, thus the elevation gain... and the plaza has yet to grow
the giant trees we see today!!?? BajaBlanca - 5-17-2013 at 08:41 AM
correctomundo !
dated 1917 this photo sits in the restaurant at CAMPO RENE
aren't the trees amazingly not there LOL Shows you what a difference close to 100 years make
congrats ElCap !

Nearly 100 years later, and all those buildings are still there. The building to the left is where Kuyima Ecotours is today. I bet those folks in
the picture couldn't imagine that the Baja 1000 would someday race through that same plaza. Actually, I bet they didn't even imagine the Baja 1000.
Heck, I bet they didn't even imagine cars!Bob H - 5-17-2013 at 12:20 PM
What a fantastic old photo of that square!willardguy - 5-17-2013 at 12:24 PM
I would have got it if the hot dog cart at the church steps wasn't out of the frame!Ateo - 5-17-2013 at 02:02 PM

Well, here are a couple photos, the first is from the mission front door area, just to the side of the steps where the original photo was likely
taken... then the next is close to the front of some buildings in San Ignacio (from July, 2007, following a downpour):
David K - 5-18-2013 at 02:46 PM
Okay, if you see the roof of the red brick building in my photo (just past the blue tarp)... it matches the roof of the building with three doors in
the old photo!
In re-examining, maybe it's another building next door, now with a metal roof or replaced... ???

1917:
2007:
There's a second old roof building past the two galvanized roof buildings in my 2007 photo that may be the one in the 1917 photo??

In this thread is a 1927 photo of San Ignacio, looking towards the mission from that building (the photo is printed reversed)... see the park tress
growing: http://forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=66803BajaRat - 5-19-2013 at 10:17 AM
The Santa Rosalia pics show how much those Ficus can grow in fifty years. Their large shade trees out back next to the Municipal building now.toneart - 5-19-2013 at 01:15 PM
I didn't want this thread to dissipate without me complimenting you, Blanca, for that wonderful photo. Of course (in hindsight ) it is San Ignacio. David, your photos and text contributions are fantastic! David K - 5-19-2013 at 08:15 PM
Thank you... keep the old (and new) photos coming everyone...BajaBlanca - 5-21-2013 at 07:49 AM
Amazing to compare the 2 photos! That park is ever the more fantastic with the trees.
