Directions to the Baja 500 Street Party?

BaldEagleMav - 5-27-2013 at 09:07 AM

Hi,

I lurk here almost daily and I'm trying to talk my spouse into checking out the Street Party this Friday.

On the SCORE website, it's listed as being at Papas & Beer in Ensenada.

I have a habit of getting lost in Ensenada while trying to get to Hwy 3 to San Felipe, so I'm feeling a little gun-shy to try and find Papas & Beer in Ensenada.

Driving south from Tijuana, I can find the main drag along the coast (Blvd Costero) that passes by the wharf and cruise ships.

Can someone give me idiot-proof directions to Papas & Beer from these landmarks?

Thanks in advance,
BaldEagleMav

Drive into town on the Costero, first stoplight before the fish taco stands, (at the PEMEX station) make a left, drive two blocks and you should be there (or the general area).and you should hear and see the fall-out Also a big gathering in the street at the Riviera/Hotel Corona

i'd think that trying to drive to the party would be crazy. wear some comfortable shoes.

Papas 'n Beer is across the street from Hussong's which is on Ruiz near Lopez Mateos/ First Street.
There is good, secure parking behind Hussong's for a couple of bucks. IT's well worth it.

Hi and thanks for the quick replies!

I guess I should have verified this in my first posting: Is the street party the event that is often photographed where many of the race vehicles appear to be parked and on display?

Or is this the Contingency and Tech Inspection event?

Is the Riviera Convention Center also close to Papas & Beer?

Thanks again,
BaldEagleMav

That's what you're looking for. The Riviera is about a thirty minute brisk walk from P+B. That's how I would do it. The closer you get to the contingency area, the worse the parking will be.

OK, thanks, Dennis!

Your best bet to avoid the mess would be to come into town using the "commercial route", not the "tourist route" to 9th street, then follow 9th to Reforma.

Turn right on Reforma (Hwy 1) and follow it to the Soriana/Office Depot shopping center (Sangines St). another right turn headed to the Navy base. Before you get to Blvd Costero (and the PEMEX there)/Navy base, turn right again and parallel Costero for a couple of blocks, past the Velmar hospital then park.

A short walk to where the cars/trucks are staged and the Riviera.

Stop at any AM/PM Pemex and pick up an Ensenada city map. Will make life easier.

Con gusto. Don't forget Hussongs's parking lot.

It's a MAD HOUSE in Ensenada during a SCORE event... but if you get there early enough, should be no problem... Contingency is where the race cars and bikes are the day before the race (Friday)... Have fun...
