just reconnected with an old pal from OB. here's his message:
Memorial day, a day when family and friends come together and unite in the backyard over a wonderful barbecue, the swimming pool, good music, great
friends and awesome food! It is the traditional kick off to summer and for the kids it signifies the closing of another school year, yipeee!!!
We all know the reason though that this most solemn day of remembrance exist. As we all enjoy the day, and take advantage of the shortened work week,
let us not forget the real reason we are asked to take a day off from work and remember those who have paid the ultimate price for us to live freely
and move about day to day unhindered by evil forces that have tried to invade our country and our lifestyle. Over the last 200 plus years our country
has fought in wars to maintain our liberty and freedom from tyrants and evil forces. We owe our lives and our personal freedoms to these men and women
who laid down their lives for us. We are still engaged in battles today that take the lives of our country men and women. This year many families are
observing Memorial Day while missing their own loved ones who only last year at this time had a seat at the dinner table, but are now gone.
So for this most solemn day of all holidays, let us not forget why we are home or on a trip, and just take a moment out of the day to say Thank You.
And if you happen to see a veteran on the street or at the supermarket, please take a few seconds to just say Thank You.

my bride lost her brother in a chopper over nam...i lost what seems like hundreds of amigos...somehow i made it back after 4 years in a heavy attack
squadron and am very grateful..livin' life to the fullest!

The most sobering stop on our trip a few years ago was at Arlington National Cemetery. A shrine we can never forget.

A big tear jerker for me was my visit to the Vietnam Memorial in Washington DC several years ago. I cried my heart and sole out there watching
family members tracing names from the memorial wall!
