I stopped in the SENTRI office at Otay yesterday to ask the person at the front desk, and what she said was this:
Anyone with a Global Entry, NEXUS or SENTRI card can use the SENTRI pedestrian lanes. Anyone with a Global Entry, NEXUS or SENTRI card can be a
passenger in the SENTRI car lanes. If they want to drive their own car across, all they have to do is log on to GOES (the website where you applied
for it) and make an appointment for a vehicle inspection, which takes about two months to get a date.
Actually, what she said was, "The only reason Global Entry cards exist in the first place is so Global Entry people can use them in the SENTRI lane.
You don't use Global Entry cards for Global Entry, you use your passport."
She also said they've done away with the vehicle stickers because of people's concerns about their cars being targeted for blind muling. I asked if I
can take my sticker off and she said, "I didn't say that."
