My Kids want to come down to our house, but they do not have passports. I told them all they need is there drivers license and a copy of their birth

they really should have passports since you are in Baja...just in case
they run about $100
the post office accepts applications at most offices
they take the pics and have the applications
a lot of county and city offices do it too
the drivers license and birth cert are good to get back into the USA if you drive but if you fly you NEED a passport...and you never know
to get a visa you need a passport...but sometimes that rule is flexible
you never really know
always be prepared as you are NOT in the USA or Canada

Perhaps what you are thinking of is a passport card? It is good for walking/driving between countries, but you cannot fly with this card.
Your kids can expedite the regular passport, they come really fast usually. Les applied for an American passport while in England, was not allowed
to expedite, but even so, it arrived in less than 2 weeks.
The problem isn't getting back into the States, because you can with a birth certificate and even without one. The real issue is not having your visa

You list your location as Percebu. Passports are $140 or so, probably another $30 for
the quick turnaround, a bit of $ to go to San Felipe
for a while. The Passcard is $40 + or so. Mex Imm
requirements vary depending what Imm officeyou are talking to. Technically you need an fmm/visa
for stays more that 3 days, in REALITY many people
go to SF for long periods of time without an fmm,
it is my UNDERSTANDING Mex Imm will not issue
an fmm without a Passport/Passcard, and I'm not 100%
sure they will accept the Passcard I always have some form of fmm, the 180 day or the
free 7 day fmm, but I'm a bit paranoid when driving

I guess I am one of those bad guys, I only got a visa 2 times ,when we drove to Mulege and when we drove to Cabo. The kids would be driving down to

Last weekend we had friends down. They did not have Passports and when they went back all they had were Driver Lic. Drove thru the east crossing and
showed there DL and were waved thru. I know of several people lately who have done the same thing. I thing the Border patrol have given up trying to
enforce the passport rule

my understanding is.........the passport is not to get back into the US, it is to legally get a visa in Mexico (or any other country). Why risk it???
