Use ATM's at banks or stores to get Pesos..........I prefer HSBC or Banamex......yes, ATM's charge a fee, so do all casa de cambio's........nothing is
free
Don't sell 'em, keep 'em for your next trip

Using your USA ATM card at a MX bank is considered the best way to go.
But in order for that ATM screen to NOT say "transaction denied, contact your banking institution"......notify your bank of your travel plans before
you swipe that card.DENNIS - 6-14-2013 at 07:39 AM
We all should have a spare ATM card with us when travelling abroad [is Baja abroad...or is Baja "a broad"?] in the event that one gets swallowed by
a machine.
Just a thought...........be prepared.shari - 6-14-2013 at 08:06 AM
Dennis dearie...good to see you have your thinking cap on!
I daresay you and Fisbuck are on the same team!
renojoe...see you soon...they are working on the potholed section of the road and have lots of it torn up so it's dirt again...better than the
potholes.RenoJoe - 6-14-2013 at 10:19 AM
Shari, I like the pot holes. They help to keep the BAD guys out.DENNIS - 6-14-2013 at 10:39 AM

I'm one of those that don't spend enough time per
trip, 5 day camping trips, in my mind, to warrant the ATM fee , the Casa
de Cambios make $ on people like me. A couple weeks ago San Ysidro was 11,80 to the dll. So looks like the Cambios
are making maybe .80 pesos off me, if the ATM rate is
12.60 or so., maybe making 7% or so?
Darn good business getting that rate of return on
their $ for doing nothing, I should get with the programDavidE - 6-14-2013 at 12:59 PM
Why waste valuable vacation time contemplating one's navel over possibly a five or ten dollar rate of exchange difference? People who live here and
deal with a total of ten or twenty or hundred thousand dollars worth of exchanges are facing a different horse.tjsue - 6-14-2013 at 01:38 PM
If you have a Charles Schwab checking account, they'll refund the fees from other ATM's. I'll be starting an account with them soon.boe4fun - 6-14-2013 at 02:31 PM
Don't know about selling pesos, but the Costco in Chula Vista has a Casa de Cambio and it's only a block or so off of the freeway. They gave us a
good rate on our last trip down and the hot dogs are a bargain. Shari, et al, I may be a little slow, but the double entendre Dennis used gave me an
election (as the Chinese might say).acadist - 6-14-2013 at 04:25 PM

FYI........Another half mile up the road, going south on the left side, is a good market, Maria Luisas, that has an ATM.
I've been in line at the ATM you mention, behind kids who think those machines are video games. Not much entertainment for a field hand's kid there.bajaguy - 6-14-2013 at 04:38 PM

If it's a BBVA Bancomer, they are hitting you with pretty hefty ATM fees.DENNIS - 6-14-2013 at 04:41 PM

I feel the same way. Too much going on during the trip to fret about the exchange rate.
And similar to acadist, I've become accustomed to stopping at that bank in Maneadero by the La Buf turnoff. Prefer an ATM at a bank to one in a store,
just so there's someone with authority if you get shortchanged or your card gets gobbled.
