Use ATM's at banks or stores to get Pesos..........I prefer HSBC or Banamex......yes, ATM's charge a fee, so do all casa de cambio's........nothing is
free

Using your USA ATM card at a MX bank is considered the best way to go.
But in order for that ATM screen to NOT say "transaction denied, contact your banking institution"......notify your bank of your travel plans before

We all should have a spare ATM card with us when travelling abroad [is Baja abroad...or is Baja "a broad"?] in the event that one gets swallowed by

trip, 5 day camping trips, in my mind, to warrant the ATM fee , the Casa
de Cambios make $ on people like me. A couple weeks ago San Ysidro was 11,80 to the dll. So looks like the Cambios
are making maybe .80 pesos off me, if the ATM rate is
12.60 or so., maybe making 7% or so?

Don't know about selling pesos, but the Costco in Chula Vista has a Casa de Cambio and it's only a block or so off of the freeway. They gave us a

FYI........Another half mile up the road, going south on the left side, is a good market, Maria Luisas, that has an ATM.

I feel the same way. Too much going on during the trip to fret about the exchange rate.
And similar to acadist, I've become accustomed to stopping at that bank in Maneadero by the La Buf turnoff. Prefer an ATM at a bank to one in a store,
just so there's someone with authority if you get shortchanged or your card gets gobbled.
