The Road Beyond

DianaT - 6-22-2013 at 08:53 PM

Why take the road beyond the visitor center for the Bristlecone Pine Forest and beyond the Patriarch Grove? It is about the wide open spaces, the local animal population, the tough, tiny and beautiful plants, and renewal.

The Road

A local resident

A few of the tiny, tiny plants that survive in that harsh environment, all of which are 1/2 -1 inch in size

Dwarf Alpine Daisy

Pussypaws

And one unnamed beauty. The higher one goes, the smaller the plants become

And from the trail head at 12000 feet that leads to White Mountain which is only a few hundred feet less than Mt. Whitney the view of the Sierra is quite surreal.

We moved here to spend more times in the Sierra Nevada and we are finding ourselves spending a lot of time in the White Mountains. Both are so beautiful and unique.

I think you might enjoy the Spark-Plug Mine and camp, on the west side of the White's, below White Mnt.

Our neighbors have told us about this great place--- then I saw a photo of the really narrow part of the trail and I am not sure I am ready for it as I am not that sure footed. But then again, I would just love to see it! Have you been there?

That is beautiful country up there , when I lived up on the Ca. side a group I was involved in used to get together at Hevenly Valley the first two weeks in August every year. I haven't been since I moved to Baja.
But I live close enough to San Pedro Marta I can get my pine tree scent fix when I need one

Yup, and we did! For the public it ends where John is looking at the Sierras.

Tis good that that picture sent you that message. Thank you.

Yes, many times, I lived in the eastern sierra for 25 years.

The ~2 mile road/trail with ~ 1000' elevation gain on the south side of the canyon does have a narrow spot.

There is also a 4wd road on the north side of the canyon that will take you to the the same elevation as the camp, then you traverse across the hill side without having to gain any elevation.

The mine is another 1000 feet above the camp.
