Bringing speargun to Baja

edm1 - 6-25-2013 at 02:01 PM

Is it a firearm? I have the kind that use blank .22 cal. cartridges to propel the spear.

bajagrouper - 6-25-2013 at 02:22 PM

I think that type is illegal, rubber band type OK........

Several years ago I had an SSP tell me "no cartuchos de armas de fuego" not even blanks. I myself would be scared to be caught with any. Later a navy patrol boat petty officer explained it was illegal for extraneous to be found with scuba gear and a speargun in the boat". Or for anyone in the boat that has fishing gear to not be in possession of a fishing license.

I wish they were as strict with Japanese commercial fishing boats :(

I believe that to be correct, and as I remember no
speargun if using Scuba?

woody with a view - 6-25-2013 at 04:14 PM

yes correct. snorkel and gun ok.

I see free divers all the time using spearguns but they are the rubber band type. I would not carry any type of cartridge that could be construed as ammo or you might be sitting in the cárcel for a long time.

It is illegal to spearfish using tanks - only freediving.

concrete guns

I know that people use concrete nail guns in Baja. they use the equal of a blank, but who knows if they are "legal"

No air tanks, rubber band type spears only. PERIOD.

Let's do that again. THAT'S ALL FOLKS, another period. Always been the law, has never changed since 1976.

Good technical point, a blank is a blank. I learned
long ago not to leave Mex Authorities any
room for interpertation

Don't forget your fishing license. If any fishing gear on board, all on board need to have a license.
